Build Aphex Twin a drum machine.

Recommended Posts

If I wasn't such an entry-level-ass intern at my job this would be an awesome challenge to tackle. Hopefully working with these mechanical engineers in the months, or years, to come will harvest new knowledge and skills. I'd love to build some wild ass instruments. At the moment, however, I would be willing to throw some cash towards the creation of this thing as a token of gratitude for the SC dump. Medievil Rave MK2 alone almost warrants it. We should give the music maker some stuff to make music with.

yeh i think he has more than enough ways to make drums already, so instead of building one just for him, i'd rather see people help him design/build one the way he wanted it, which could then be produced and sold. it'd be interesting to see what he'd come up with. i'm guessing he'd want the same thing i've felt like drum machines usually lack, which is an abundance of parameters to manipulate the sounds so you can really get in and sculpt your own bass drum, snare, etc. which is what he was getting at with his mention of modulars.

the problem imo would immediately become the presentation. how do you offer a ton of various controls with lots of potential for a variety of sounds, but have everything geared towards producing mainly percussive/drum sounds, AND have it all presented in a way that wouldn't baffle anyone who tried to use it? like how do you make something like that in a streamlined way that anyone can just start twisting knobs and make an endless variety of great drum sounds, without getting confused?

put a donk on it.

i thought the Elektron RYTM could sample though? surprised he gave any praise whatsoever to the dsi tempest which still has no industry standard midi implementation

afaik i usually place all my cum drops on scientifically sterilized glass slides which are carefully frozen and placed in trash cans throughout the city labelled "for women ❤️ alco" with my social security and phone numbers.

Yeah I wouldn't call something that can't record incoming audio a sampler either. But the RYTM does seem to be a pretty badass drum machine.

he should totally tell the world every single thing that he would want in a drum machine. then someone will make one and he will hate it probably because he has moved on 2 other things already.

ah i see, i never really realized there was a distinction between something where you could load your own samples Vs directly recording inside, but now that I think about it makes sense.

Sampler vs. sample player. :)

Richard looks down at his greasy stained hands.

"How am I going to make my next banger?" He rather loudly thinks to himself, "Syro was just all 10 year old tracks!"

His drum machines were in rather poor condition, after his repeated failures in making polynomial-C, he had thrown his akai S612 right out the window! He just couldn't get that genuine tape hiss right!

Poor Richard.
