Graphic Artists Thread

We focus a lot on music and tech based art forms, but the hand drawn and hand assisted art forms dating back to cave paintings are still alive and well. Who are you a fan of? I guess comic artists count, since most do stand alone pieces either professionally or for hobby.

Dan Lish - Stictly Kev champions him, and deservedly so




Masamune Shirow - the unknown artist behind Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, Orion, Tank Police etc. he fell into tentacle porn in the 00s, and pretty much lives off his liscensing now






Clive Barker - a renaissance man, my brother and I have liked his paintings since adolescence.




Akira Toriyama - beloved manga artist, creator of Dragon Quest, Dragon Ball, Blue Dragon, Dr Slump & Chrono Trigger






Shigeru Miyamoto is actually a brilliant classicly influenced illustrator, although he left that behind in the 80s mostly




Salvador Dali - a museum of his works is in St Petersburg, Florida so I was fortunate enough to visit that several times so far




Doug Chiang - primary conceptual artist for Star Wars prequels. His designs are beautiful, and weren't done just by the CGI dept




Ralph McQuarrie - original Star Wars artist, basically responsible for the look of the entire SW universe. His stuff is being mined again by SW Rebels




Syd Mead - sci fi master.




Jean Giraud - the late great Moebius. Another master of the medium




Hayao Miyazaki - another manga master turned director

Brian and Wendy Froud, best know for designing Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal. They were going to design the sequel as well, but that's in development hell going on a decade now. Also well known for popularizing Faerie art since the 80s.

Although Otomo is of course best known for Akira & Steamboy, check out his Freedom OVA from a few yrs back, it was sponsored by a noodle co, so there are obvious product placements, but a great sci-fi story, and good use of cel shading his animation style.

These people did artwork for Ann Aimee releases, right? It's extremely familiar to album covers of Alex Cortex and CiM
