kog karma? wha do ya say?

my fellow band member got bored of his microkorg and researched for the past week on his next hardware purchase. he found the Karma and might get it in a few days... any of you nay say or have a better peice of hardware for him to look into?

depends what kinds of sound he's after, and whether it's worth the extra above a s/h triton, which you can pick up for peanuts these days

the Z1's probably the best VA/digital-synth going - and very undervalued

rubbish presets, but the sound quality is far superior to my Virus/Nord - much more versatile - deeper, more defined bass, smoother pads, ambiences, nicer sounding leads, etc.

if you can program and get into a synth then you won't find better

get a doepfer mini system for $1200 instead

actually i bet he could get a used Nord G2 Modular for around $1400 if he's patient

i didn't like the karma that much when i played with one for a bit. get something less bland for that price.

yeah microkorg and karma are both terrible keyboards. It's hard to know what to recommend to people. Some people don't like to use synthesizers to create the sound they're after and prefer using workstation presets.

While I put my disdain for those people on the backburner I can easily say if you MUST have a workstation keyboard get a kurzweil k2500

if a synth is what you're after (as somewhat evidenced by your microkorg purchase) get a waldorf q synthesizer. suggest to this dude to sell the microkorg. buy a waldorf q and some kickass monitors with the cash he was gonna spend on the karma. Karma is just a shit keyboard marketed to trance guys the same way triton is to g-funks

well he got it and i guess is liking it so far, though this is only the second synth he has ever touched. I agree with no name and would prefer to go analogue... can take the sounds so much further. But he's a simple kind of guy whereas i'm more interested in the depths of my machines and enjoy taking them apart and putting them back together and understanding how they work. We'll see how it all comes together come wednesday when we jam.
