Glad to see a thread started, man was a real legend and innovator. Came from Fort Worth too, which is not exactly known as a city with a jazz history, in fact he got kicked out of his high school band for improvising, which ironically spawned a lot of jazz musicians.

Damn man, the guy was a legend pure and simple. Still, he had a good run and we'll always have his music.

Science Fiction is a hell of an album.

Was never a big fan of Free Jazz, but all of his other early albums are really great.

I think this is my favourite track of his, such a wonderful tune:
