I made a FM synth diddly.

So I drank a bunch of beers and this came out of me tonight. It's a rough draft I suppose, unmastered and unpolished. I was hoping you folks might be able to give me some feedback in terms of melody, structure, and general cohesion? Keep in mind this is something I pulled out of my ass from 3 hours of jamming so be brutally honest, I don't mind.

Melody has an earnest/genuine quality. Overall this sounds like something that would accompany a sizzle reel for a 16 bit film noir platformer where the main character is a trenchcoat-clad skeleton.

I kinda feel like it would be great as vg music. I kinda structured it like classic vgmusic and I think it loops quite well. Still gotta work it a bit, in particular the percussion needs a bit more work.

Very groovy! Like as it's been said, very VG-ish.

That bit of granular dust I think is genius. Give it more of that. The skeleton of the track is there, just give it a bit of flesh.

And I want the drums to be much bigger and more crunchy, but that could just be wanting a bit more meat around the bones....

i like it BUT it needs FM synth drums in the mix as well, sampled drums + FM synthesis melodies = not as big of a fan

I think it could be spiced up with some more effects and modulation. Play with the stereo field more, filter modulation, bring in more dynamics and vary the velocity/volume of the melody and harmony. Some points also seem like they need more space and sound "cluttered" in melody.

i agree. try sticking the parts through lots of different fx and see what works

To play a wrong note is insignificant. To play without passion is inexcusable

Holy christ what was I thinking? That would work really well.

Also thanks for the feedback folks! Sorry for bumping this 2 months later.
