Morgan Ågren - Batterie Deluxe

Just got tipped on this, the first solo album by this legendary drummer. The list of acts he has worked with is incredible, from Frank Zappa to Squarepusher and from Meshuggah (well, Fredrik Thordendal (of Meshuggah) classic "Sol Niger Within" that is) to Steve Vai and Daedelus.

Granted, it's already a few months old but this deserves to be considered as a new release. There's a shitload of variety in here and it's really well produced. Haven't even finished listening to this but I'm a bit blown away. This is filled with electronics and braindance. Super fresh!

Interesting watmm-relevant fact: Morgan met Squarepusher last year and they worked together:

Thrilled! After a flight with many connecting trains, I finally ended up with ”Squarepusher" yesterday (Tom Jenkinson that is)
We played for an hour or two, just bass an drums in his house outside London. Then we listened to Coltrane vinyls until late ;)
Particularly one duo album w Coltrane and Rashed Ali. So nice. I also got to hear his upcoming release (Squarepusher),
- something he composed for a huge Japanese midi robot, which was also really great. This midi robot is something similar to Pat Methenys midi thing I think, but musically very different.
Anyways, I hope we will do stuff together soon. Supernice guy also!

I'm intrigued, thanks for the tip!

Big fan of Vai, obviously Squarepusher and Zappa also so I'm interested in this, buying the album now.

Nah, you're a wee child who can't wait for official release. Embarrassing. Shove your privilege.

Have to be honest here, at first glance I was expecting the ol' "progressive" dad rock, so from the first track on I was seriously impressed. That Elka Deep Phase track could easily pass as a collaboration with Ceephax. And that The One M track is just super delicious braindance, can't believe it. It's all over the place musically, just the way I like it.

And then this track to top it off, this is already a contender for top 2015 albums:

Saw him live with Mats Öberg in a super random place in the east of France 15 years ago, impressive to say the least.
