Clown Chops – What are these, Micro-Mashups?

A 30 minute mix/EP mashing up all the WATMM featured artists (plus Cylob, DMX Krew, Gescom, Venetian Snares and Steinvord). Some of the source tracks are unrecognisably chopped up, while elsewhere familiar phrases emerge.

This was all recorded haphazardly off vinyl at various speeds into an Akai S20 sampler, which was then controlled in an improvisational style by jamming on midi delay parameters and gate times via a Yamaha RS7000 sequencer. Minimal post-editing was done in Reaper to join together the best sections, so that the spontaneity of the jam sessions was preserved. No effects other than compression were added so as to emphasise the staccato gating.

Wow, that was pretty crazy. I like how it sounds vaguely familiar somehow but I can't really recognise anything except (I think) some Ae samples. There's bits I really like, like at around 3:30 and at around 6:00!

It reminds me a bit of Skinny Puppy's "Download", also Oval minus the DSP.
