There's probably been another thread like this, but since even google search returns nothing, well Friday morning fun.

Over the past few days I've been reading a lot of stuff about cyber security (not the deep technical aspect of it, more how it relates to policy making blah blah).

Anyways, it struck me how eerily prescient Gibson's description of a virus attack in Neuromancer was.

Reading on how stuxnet interacted with Iranian nuclear facilities, and how they identified when to work, how they replicated etc, it was very similar I felt to the description given in Neuromancer when Case is doing his hack. With the rise of deeplearning, will we see more and more exploits like this?

Combine deeplearning with the work being done on genetic manipulation and we could see some really amazing or terrifying results.

In the meantime, here's a cool real time map of cyber attacks. Watch the map with Scion's Arrange and Process playing and feel yourself get sucked in to the vortex.
