The middle of this reminded me of Yes for some reason and I think it’s because her phrasing is quite similar to Jon Anderson proggy dragon stories in places.

Keen to hear. Glad its looking like its a standard album and nothing directed by gimmick or snything. Not that thered be anything wrong with 6xlp or anything but personally more just interested in hearing new tunes :)

i like the album cover. Who is that artist btw? I've seen her stuff before, its all really elaborate fish tank railroad minature style photography

I thought that Y's was really fantastic. I even catch myself throwing on a track or two from it every now and again still. Not feeling this so much from the preview. The choice of instruments doesn't quite do it for me. I like the stripped down joanna newsom the most it seems.

mm. a little bit agreed^ but not so much to stop me from wanting to check this out. Milkeyed and Ys were both some of my favourite musics.

have one on me has some nice tracks but some of the epic tracks just have too much stuff going on and the constant back and forthness of it all loses me a bit. but it's still good. im waiting for it to properly *click* ... perhaps i just dont like it. and this definitely has a ring of Have one on me, in the instrumentation. but i'm enjoying it :)

I mean, it's quite complex but it's not like super full sounding. thinking back on it, isn't it maybe her harp and some strings most of the time? In some parts there is an added guitar and a male vocalist.

i think i'm the only person here who doesn't really care for her voice or music. i feel like I should, I normally dig unique female vocalists, but she just doesn't do it for me

the thing with Joanna Newsom is that Pitchfork auto-assign 9.0+ ratings and hipsters assume there must be quality there ... massively overrated imo

Nah it's not just you, I fucking hate it with a passion . She's good looking though, and I'm sure she's a lovely person. But fuck listening to this. Just to reiterate, I hate it.

i sometimes go to 'cannabis dispensaries' in oakland. Traditionally these dispensaries are either ran by rich yuppies, thuggy gangster types or blatant hippies. This time i visited one of the 'thuggy' dispensaries. A very round and large imposing white man who was wearing a backwards hat and with a giant beard (who resembled Sage francis) was sitting at the front desk BLASTING joanna newsom., literally. I don't think ive ever heard someone play Joanna newsom that loud before, like someone would do blasting rap out of a moving car. I was so taken aback by the experience I had to ask him what it was (even though i immediately recognized the music). He looked up slowly and angrily from his computer and almost what started as a mumble belted out with a loud tough grunt - "JOANA NEWSOM!". The tone in his voice as he *yelled* her name to me was like a mixture of an ultra tough guy caught in a vulnerable moment mixed with deep rage and a touch of pure joy. I'll never forget it

I know it's kind of cool to have an open mind, we can all sit round the fire on a beach and drink beer, and appreciate all different dimensions of our universe, that would be great, and many times I have done it.
