goffer
i'm saving up for my next toy and had my mind set on the 1000 so i went to get a hands on feel at the local guitar center. I stood before all the drum machines/sequencers along with 3 of the employees. they asked which one i was saving up for and i pointed at the 1000 and they all nodded in approval then all simultaneously pointed to the 2500 and said to might as well save any other $600 and get the 2500 instead. The reviews i've read are about equal but the 2500 has a HDD.... and a 1000 just went up on craigslist used for $600. So i'm in a bit of a pickle. any other hardware you'd suggest? i love the MPC's but sometimes they have too much of a hip hop feel to 'em, but i want something with pads. Guest Iain C
I have a friend who's saving for an MPC and you should have seen his reaction when I said I didn't need a hardware sampler... I have a lot of samples i'm going to use and i dont want to have to switch between cards often... or at all really. i actually got mine on eBay with the 128 meg upgrade... waited until i saw one at a good price and used a bid sniping service. :D i've never maxed the ram out. i don't think you'd be too unhappy if you just wanted to get the default config, either - you won't be able to load a shitload of loops, but i'd say you could easily assign all the pad slots. on the flash memory card, what they give you is certainly enough for a track or two, but the cards are cheap and so i got a 512 meg one. it's all i need. if you want to save money, you can certainly live with the default 32 one. oh, and i recommend you get a compactflash card reader or something, too - the mpc can act as a usb device, but i always found that a pain in the ass, because you have to put it into a mode where it's watching for usb. with a card reader, you can just pop the memory card out whenever, toss it in the reader, load your files, then stick it back in without having to stop what you're doing on the mpc. you can get the readers for like $20... and i'd recommend you actually get that before getting a bigger memory card, if money forces a choice. but getting both is better ;) p.s., one of my favorite things to do on it is sit on my ass by a CD player and sample weird crap Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/8852-mpc1000-or-2500-or-other/#findComment-180417 Share on other sites
