it's a pretty fair and accurate review, imo. i disagree about Skyliner; i like that track. but otherwise, the reviewer pretty much gets it right.

It's a pretty fair review. I just received mine from Warp today. Apart from Skyliner and Left Hand Drive it's nothing to shout about. We've all heard Dayvan before and the remix is frankly rubbish. Those Wisp ones on here were much better.

Definitely their weakest release. Mainly IMHO because of the need to include all the Dayvan stuff.

They could have added more unreleased stuff instead.

I disagree about the remix; it's better in my mind than wisp's vanilla remixes. Though I'm not a fan of its structure - quiet-loud-quiet-loud-etc - I find myself listening to the middle part with drum and guitar, as often as I listen to Left Side Drive and Heard from Telegraph Lines, my two other favorite tracks.

The remix is three random bits of boring sound cobbled together.

At least make one consistent track if your going to remix BoC...

yeah, once again, i find myself reluctantly agreeing with pitchfork ... i suppose my infinite love for 'left side drive' has sort of biased me, but then when i try to really step back, yeah, the EP is about a 6.0.

i've been listening to it a lot , but only b/c it runs ~28 minutes , which is exactly how long it takes me to drive to/from work . it's so painfully short .. like being sprayed w/ a garden hose when you want an hour in the hot tub

I'd give it a 9/10. I love Dayvan Cowboy, Left Side Drive and Skyliner. But I agree with Pitchfork about the lack of BOC new material.

I'd live without any tracks on this EP except for Left Side Drive. But then again, it's been done on MHTRTC.

i also think the remix is the best track on there; in fact, the other tracks pale in comparison..

it has such a thick, crunchy, huge and ethereal sound to it.. real lysergic, heady stuff... moodwise it would fit in with some of BoC's earlier (geogaddi-styled), more psychedelic, tracks.. it has that same mushroom-y layered crunchyness... + the drones at the end are extremely sweet...

I almost agree...The middle part has more passion to it than any of the Boards tracks, which seem fairly bland on the whole.

also the remix is just okay ... i mean, the first and third parts aren't even good by 'odd nosdam trademark ambience' standards. the second part is awesome, but only because dayvan is the original track; it would be very very hard to fuck up a track as good as dayvan

as an ep, i dont really like how 1 track is dayvan cowboy and the other is a remix.

that said, i do like the remix.

i do feel the ep couldve been better, but i still like it.

i think the remix really lets the ep down...i was close to turning it off when i first heard it...and i doubt ill be listening to it again....they should have given to autechre or somebody to do the mix...would have come out a lot better...

I dont like the fact that davyan cowboy is on there, as most people will already have this from campfire anyway, and i am one of the ones who doesnt rate that track that much anyway...it sounds to clean for boards....the strings in particular....

Left side drive is wicked...especially the chords at the end

Heard from telegraph lines is really really good as welll...really infectious..

Syliner is good...but already heard it....

Under the coke sign is ok, but not amazing...

So id give bout 6.5/10

The remix is good, but together with the other tracks it doesn't seem in place.

I wonder why people aren't disappointed with Under the Coke Sign for example - it's basically an attempt to repeat Pete Standing Alone with Olsen's chords but maybe boc realised it was becoming already too familiar so it was reduced to just a loop over some vinyl crackle. This is the biggest disappointment to me.

And i think for their next release the boards should go in a totally new direction, cause at least for me there is no point in doing the same thing over and over again. I would have been happier if they made a punk rock album instead. Or maybe they should try to get a guest vocalist for each track. Or a small orchestra with violins and stuff...

On one hand I think they're being a bit too down on it, on the other hand...

It's just a single. What do you expect? The fact there there are new full-lengths tracks at all is a bonus. One shouldn't get too excited over a single...

maybe its a grower but i find it quite predictable & boring (btw: i was sure i would hate their latest record with guitars samples, but i listen to it all the time & love it), i dont like the remix at all, the original is a great track & this one sounds artificial, like a remix done on a computer (unlike sounds artists like normandeau or bj nilsen who treat sounds in a quite organic way with computers)

but i guess this ep needs time...
