Vancouver

I hate to create a thread like this, but I need to share my experience. It's been I while since I don't hang out here, so for you who don't know me: I discovered Autechre 15 years ago; the first time I heard their music I felt like God was speaking through my speakers, love at first sight. Rob and Sean are my "favorite" (it's actually more than that) living musicians, along of course with RDJ and the Sandison brothers. Since I am from Argentina, I never had the priviledged oportunity to see AE in live, but I have recentely moved to the US, so you probably can imagine how I felt when I first read the news about this tour... I decided to go to the Vancouver date because at the time the Seattle date was not yet confirmed (XXXXXX) and I was too exited anyways...

Saturday, caugh a flu, fever (+38C), bad luck but I couldn't care less, I though, "in just a few hours I will be listening to Autechre!". So, I went to the Imperial. Their bus was right in front of the entrance, I could even feel their presence! inside was just like any normal club with normal people, and a few happy faces (fans are so obvious). I just stayed in the bar drinking water awaiting them to come (cygnus and rob hall were ok, not really my cup of tea). Then lights went off, I see two dark figures moving and then it started: super heavy bass eating all the available sound bandwidth in the room, bouncing everywhere, long low frequency tails, surrounded by an histerical public yelling "FUCK YEAHH UHHHH!!!!!". There was some AE very far away, but it was very hard to listen to while all these euphoric morons were talking shit and yelling non stop. It was horrible. This is the worst public I have ever seen in my life (even worse than that Kraftwerk show six years ago where 99% of the public were saying "what is this? lol where is Radiohead?! Ra-dio-head, Ra-dio-head!!!1").

I know part of my experience is biased because of my fever, but I didn't expected this kind of people. 15 years and the only thing I will remember from my first Autechre concert will be an idiot yelling "we love you Aphex Twin LOL". I am so angry and sad. FUCK YOU! you guys should be better listening to Skrilex, you fuckers... and to finish the nightmare at the end of the event some random girl grabbed my butt and laughed in my face. I will never go visit Canada again.

Reads like it was an awesome night. Butt grabbed by a girl at an Ae gig, you almost performed "fucktechre" (a rather fresh concept on this board) live - is this even possible, needs a Cronenberg screen version.

You must have been at a different vancouver autechre show than me.Other than a few meth junkies wandering around with eyes the size of dinner plates it was fine.

Could barely hear audioblysk right beside me, how the fuck is it possible that all you heard was chatter? lol

A live Ae gig on ice at Edmonton Oilers stadium would be incredible. Imagine the acoustics bouncing off the ice. and the stadium announcer being cut n chopped.

Vancouver show was brilliant. Lots of people on drugs groping others is part of the experience. It sounded great at the front.

Yeah, good point!

I went back to buy some beers and the sound quality wasn't as good (still good, just noticeably different). Up there on the floor it was amazing though.

Btw it was great to meet you. Those flashcards were amazing lol.

For my first show ever, I have absolutely no complaints and it was one of the best times I've ever had! Also, thank you to everyone I met from WATMM for making the experience even better! (insert other cheesy stuff here)

Also if I haven't said so already, it was great meeting everyone. I'm hoping we can have some NW meetup again somewhere.

^ I was thinking the same thing! Seattle seems to get a fair amount of decent shows, maybe that's a reasonable place for us to all meet again.

We will have to keep an eye out for good shows!

Listening to you and sweepstakes talk was awesome.... even though I didn't understand much of what you were saying, it was fun to tune in.
