This is pretty trippy. (Definitely a form of trance music.)

i never had any luck running a nanoloop rom on ds or psp =\

gba micros are sexy as hell. always wanted a famicom one but they're priced a such a premium and they don't play gb/gbc carts, right?

got turned off of my original nanoloop cart when the battery died and i lost everything. i think the new carts are straight flash so there's no battery backup necessary tho. so maybe someday i'll scoop another one. nano for android is tits tho for $4

op track is some 8bit john cage shit

thanks guys! yeah the GBM only plays GBA carts. Not a big deal for me, since I have an original DMG and a gameboy color as well for my oldskool stuff.. plus the original GBA doesn't have a backlight, the SP needs an adapter for audio output, and the DS doesn't have a link port.. so GBM it is!

And yeah, the latest carts are all flash memory. I've got a nanoloop 1 cart as well (for the original gameboy), the latest version of that is just a circuit board with all of the components under a layer of resin, it's sexy as fuck.

Reminds me i gotta get nanoloop on my psp. :D

Pretty cool track, synth sound could use a bit more variation though (nanoloop can get pretty wacky IIRC).

I kept it minimal without much variation because the original was just piano and I wanted to stay as close to that as possible. My usual nanoloop tracks are pretty wacky!

Nicely done! Very hypnotic; the tones and patterns are well chosen.

Yes we did, and no relation.

I've had this name as my project name for quite a while; didn't know about blanketfortcollapse until I joined WATMM a few years ago.

Sorry for any confusion!

Cool idea :)

Kind of reminds me of the intro to Bubble Bobble for NES towards the end

sounds good, didn't know the GBA= advanced version of nanoloop sounded that good. Its emulating the original soundchip or is it actually being synthesized on the original gameboy synth chip? Either way my skepticism about the gba version being worthless is gone

It's neither, I think. It's still four channels like on the original gameboy, but the gba's sound chip has more in common with the snes which is sample based. I'm not sure how nanoloop 2 handles the sound chip but it allows the following:

- 2 pulse wave channels with pulsewidth, low/highpass filter and an FM mode which turns them into sine waves, and a pitch envelope/LFO

- a third channel with the above features, but also allowing 4-oscillator unison or 4-note chords; envelope/LFO controls filter/FM frequency

- noise channel with various filtering/speed options

It's still fairly lo-fi though, and amazingly it has a quite lovely overdrive to it when the channels are pushed a little, it almost sounds analog sometimes. The gameboy phase video probably isn't the best example of that, this is probably a better example of the nanoloop 2 sound:

and the first 9mins/last 5mins of this set:

For comparison, nanoloop 1 on original gameboy was used from 9 mins onward until the last track. Much more abrasive!

10k views already. What a trip. It's been picked up by a couple of classical music blogs/online magazines too.
