Small, inexpensive reverb that doesn't suck, for a live rig. Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Looking for something cheap and little to stick on my second aux send for a bit of glue. Right now I'm leaning toward a Microverb but I'd love to hear about anything else in a similar form factor and price range (around $60 US or less) that's a bit more exotic. Does not have to sound "good" as long as it's not too noisy. Knobs are better than menus but small and cheap is better than knobs. Not really interested in half rack or bigger, since I have an SE-50 I could pull out of my main rack if it came to that.
Unless it's something with a really unique sound.

Behringer RV600

Say what you like about Behringer, but I've had that pedal for 7 years and it's survived numerous live shows and recording setups. It has a bunch of different useful modes; I think it's a clone of the Line6 Verbzilla

Interesting. I was looking at some of those Chinese pedals that you can get under half a dozen brand names on Amazon but the reverbs all seemed to be a little expensive for what I'm after. I bet I could rehouse that thing into a pretty tiny box, too. Not sure why I didn't look at Behringer stuff, I know a couple of their rack units (Virtualizer?) have a bit of a cult following.

Actually my first idea was the Korg Pandora PX4 a friend of mine can loan me indefinitely but I'm pretty sure there's no way to get a 100% wet mix out of those (haven't gotten to try yet). Might still be cool for running a drum machine through, though.

Come to think of it, does the Behringer have a 100% wet setting? Pedals tend not to.

It does!

Also, the Virtualizer Pro is amazing. Definitely recommended if you decide to buy more rack gear.

I haven't used one but I've been vaguely eyeing the Zoom MS-70CDR for this purpose. I think it has choruses and delays too, and if I remember right, you can have chains of the effects, depending on which algorithms you use.

Never heard of those, looks like it might be their answer to the Korg Pandora Stomp maybe? I don't really know anything about Pandoras either, tonight is the first time I've ever tried one. No good for this application but has a lot more potential for misuse than I expected.

I have a Zoom 1201 rack unit and I like it. It's a little lo-fi (which is why I got an older unit) and it is mostly pre-sets (verbs can only be adjusted by time, and there are 11 banks of 11 verb types) the only thing is there is no information on what each preset is like so you have to go through them and find what you're after or make notes. There are newer versions with LCD screens and more knobs so they may be easier/more useful but I'm not sure how they sound. Being Zoom they are pretty much dirt cheap as well on eBay and such.

ill second that behringer. in fact its only good at 100% wet (otherwise there is a big tone suck on the dry signal). there are some good settings (shimmer / spring).. i think it uses the same chip, or somehow its a clone of a line6 stereo verb pedal.

So it does 100% wet then? What about mono in/stereo out?

The only thing Zoom I have much experience with is the PD-01 Power Driver distortion pedal, and that thing is great.

I didn't know about the editor until just now, that changes things a lot. I thought the Toneprint thing just let you load different reverb models TC sold (pedal DLC), I didn't realize you could make your own. That's pretty hard to argue with. The mini is a bit more money than I thought, at that point it would only make sense to spend a bit more and get the bigger one. Seriously leaning toward selling something to get one of those now.

These are amazing! you can make your own verbs with the editor too...

£100

What?

Please tell me more... Is this editor like an upload your own convolution/FIR thing?

The TonePrint Editor allows guitarists to design their pedal from the ground up, no limitations. So unlike solutions where you get to tweak a couple of parameters or all-in-one solutions, the editor allows you to custom build your take on our TonePrint effects: delay, reverb, chorus, flange and vibrato and fundamentally change the character of the effect, or and the range of the knobs - exactly how you want or need things to sound.

I have a nanoverb but there's something wrong with it, tons of hum. Might go through and recap it at some point. If I buy another Alesis it'll almost definitely be the microverb, though.

Has anyone tried the Picoverb? They cost next to nothing and are tiny, so could be just right for this situation.

I think I'm going to pick up the PT2399 Dev Delay board from Synthrotek and make a small delay from that instead of using my old Boss RDD10 like I was planning, so that will save me a pretty good bit of space but a bit less budget, so the TC is out for now.

wait wut? That's pedal basically has convulsion reverb??? Fuckballs.

If that's what it is actually you can use it for waaay more than just reverb...
