TechDiff - FnkRbbrDav / Saturdayve

Recommended Posts

Hoihoi.. Little while ago I posted a jam vid thing what I done, made a couple more so I figured I'd do the same again.

Here's one:

and here's t'other:

Slowly working on a way of doing this kinda thing live. Bought a new case for the modular bits which should hopefully standup to a bit of a beating, and balls deep in Reaktor building for sampling/looping/layering and effects etc.

Audio seems to get a bit gnarled on YT, drop me a PM if you'd like a better version, can upload somewhere.

Wow!. I love the setup, tunes and idea of doing it all live! Those chords in Saturdayve = <3

I haven't really looked into the beatstep pro, but is it sequencing everything here? Curious as I've been looking to setup something similar with my machines, but it'd involve getting a real sequencer. Also, what module(s) are you using for the drums? I love the sound on them.

Hey cheers!

Yeah I'm really having a lot of fun doing this kinda thing at the moment. Dumb as it might sound, I really like the feeling of having all these boxes in front of me, doing.. stuff which is immediately resulting in music. Feels kinda magical, very different from spending hours sat in front of a computer.

Hmmm beatstep pro.. I think for what I'm wanting to do at the moment, alternatives are scarce. A shame really, since if there was something out there that could fill the same gap, the beatstep would've been broken over the side of a desk many times over. It is astonishingly buggy!

When it's working, it's cool. 2 channels of CV, 16 gates (8 of which can go out as CV) and some general MIDI CC gumffff. You also get clock out and so on. Main issues I have with it at the moment, trying to power off USB and drive CV stuff will result in crazy amount of ground loop hum. Arturia supply a splitter so you can power it with something else, but when doing so, MIDI becomes super unreliable. Either dropping out, freezing, or refusing to work at all. Jitter on the MIDI clock from it is laughable, and the clock CV out is so sketchy, it's basically useless. It was better, last update made it worse.

There are other sporadic bugs which surface on occasion. I think I have maybe a 1 in 3 chance of turning it on and it being solid, which is totally ruining my plans to use it live.

But yeah, aside from something big-boy like the Cirklon, I'm at a loss for alternatives.

Sorry to say, drums are played by my laptop. BSP sends the sequence over MIDI to some drums synths I made in Reaktor a while ago. I do really like the look of some of the drum modules out there, but they are either pretty big, many HP, or a bit too simple to justify the cost. Also, again with the idea of using this for gigs, I'd rather have more spaces for voices and modulation, than use a chunk of case space for 1 shot drum modules
