Are there any Robert Rich fans in here?

I find his music to be most deep and beautiful.

In 2001 he released a 7 hour long album on DVD called 'Somnium' - I think listening to that has given me the best ambient experiences of all time. Of course the idea is to leave it playing as you sleep (it was born of of 'Sleep Concerts' R Rich was performing) - but I find it rewards 'zoned in' listening just as much as much as it can have wonderful effects on sleep. The music is detailed even though it is very slow moving.

Anyway, I found out he just recently released a 'sequel' to that 7 hour masterpiece, called 'Perpetual'. It's excellent...not quite as powerful for me as Somnium, but still fantastic.

Also included is the original Somnium, which makes for a great combo.

Any fellow WATMMers dived into these releases?

I've been a fan since the 1980s. I discovered him when I was into Steve Roach. he did a few collaborations with Steve in the early 90s. You should check out 'Soma' and 'Stata'. The track ' The Seduction Of The Minotaur' by Roach and Rich is incredible. Also, as mentioned, the Stalker collaboration is good.

I've got a rare CD of Robert's called 'The Night Sky Replies.'

It's great to hear from someone who likes 80s synth artists.

I listen to Perpetual almost every night. His -96 cleveland sleep concert is a true gem, there's a bootleg available on youtube. Love his old albums as well, Sunyata, Trances & Drones etc, and I try to catch his collaborations with other great artists like Alio Die.

Robert's live compilation Humidity is probably my most preferred recording from him. It has lots of bits from Stalker. I also like Somnium, but I listen to it very rarely. Some of his works sound too "new agey" for me with the ethnic instruments. Perpetual seems interesting, have to grab it sometime.

Haven't really kept up with him recently, but I do have that collab he did with Lustmord and his album "BestiarY" and then some other more piano-based album, definitely interesting stuff.

Oh yes, 'Bestiary' is amazing...! I will have to do some further exploring.

I like Steve Roach, Lustmord, Michael Stearns and others from the scene also...

Al N Aafiysh - great church pictures from that gig! It must have been great to talk to him. I like the way he thinks and articulates his thoughts.
