88-key weighted keyboard

Ideally under £400 would be good, if you have one that you love do let me know the model. x

I have this one :

combined with two UC-33 midi controllers (can find them for 50 € ~ 80 €) and a Trigger Finger that i can use as a modwheel. Can't go wrong with Yamaha, sturdy and reliable.

Just a warning about cheap weighted full size keyboards: You kinda get what you pay for. Cheap ones, although they may well be weighted, they also might feel like crap!

Wherever possible I'd see if you can get a chance to demo them. Unlike non-weighed where they're all generally made from the same hardened plastic, weighted ones tend to be made or coated from a variety of materials and some just feel nasty !

I can't specifically comment on the 88 key fully weighted(?) version, but I always really liked the keybed on the semiweighted models in the Alesis QS series from the late 90s (I've been using a QS7.1 as my main controller for longer than almost any other piece of gear because I never felt any need to replace it). The QS8/8.1 is harder to find, but they're out there and aren't that expensive. There's one on eBay right now for $275 or best offer, but shipping overseas would probably be pretty expensive. Still, it could be worth looking in to and as a bonus you could make a pretty convincing 1998 made for TV movie soundtrack with it.

I was probably going to pop into a shop to try a few, I was just curious if there was a model that was the go to choice for IDM superstars.

That's mainly what I want one for, excellent.

Yeah pretty much all of them have a sustain/hold and most also have an expression pedal port

Yamaha P-70 has 88 weighted keys that feel great. Very barebones otherwise in terms of features. I have Yamaha s-90 es and it has loads more features n feels great to play.

I'm a pretty mediocre pianist but as much as I'm able to judge, Yamaha really does make excellent keybeds. I actually specifically chose that Alesis I mentioned because I was after semi-weighted and it was the closest new (at the time) keyboard I could find to a DX-7, which I've always found really playable. Even the entry level, 80s Yamaha parlor organ I recently gave to a friend had a fantastic nonweighted keybed.
