Ovuca old material (ie onclements)

Recommended Posts

fuck how good is this shit? i havent listened to it in probably 15 years and it sounds soooo lush. like a whole world of braindance that i forgot about, the childish playfulness of it, headfuck melodies and lush bits...definitely warrants further exploration into the back catalogue.

i enjoy this much more than his newer colundi efforts and although they are musically more mature and even somewhat academic, the spirit is a bit lost in comparison. bogdan is a bit the same way, like very playful like, totaly unembarrased.

have you rediscovered anything lately on phlex? prolly another thread for this but oh well

Good thread. I like both “eras” of Aleksi, but I think it’s definitely correct to say that the earlier stuff had a very distinct vibe. I haven’t listened to Onclements in a while, I should dig out my copy.

I remember getting that album on vinyl sometime around like 2002 (I think there was a repress around that point?) without knowing much about it and being completely perplexed by there being like 100 tracks, only half of which had names. Total classic Rephlex situation.

literally spoiling it for you here

Absolute classics, absolutely monumental for me. It was such a suprise when I found out about the two (!) outtake albums Ovuca released on the web around 2001, some of the tracks on there are better than on the albums that were released (especially for Lactavent). I made a thread on it a while ago here: http://forum.watmm.com/topic/82510-ovucas-old-outtakes/

( PM me if you want them :) )

I wouldn't dare compare colundi to this, completely different projects and approach, although the later levels (around Level 10 and 11) felt very Ovuca-ish at times, more warm braindancey breakbeat-ish tracks on there.

Aleksi's one of my very favorite artists, but I'd say that it's the insanely groovy yet hmm subversive braindance à la Project V that I prefer. Universal funk goodness.

Astrobotnia feels like frozen pop music from a light-years away planet, in a parallel universe: love those to bits, one of the most mind blowing electronic live show I've been to.

I love the whole Colundi series, and especially appreciate how each level is lusher than the previous ones.

Haven't listened to "old" Ovuca in years, thanks for the reminder! Never heard the outtakes though!

I dont believe I ever listened to onclements in full back when it was released. what a breath of fresh air. ive been dealing in clinical electro for years now on the radio and its so refreshing to hear the no rules exceptionalism of this stuff, it breathes whole new life into the music world ive been in. king stacey also rules, eustace and the like being really euphoric and memorable. i was a fan of the astrobotnia series, although it was a little more serious than previous efforts he really went deep on it, its a nice cerebral album, very good to write to i found. viva phlex ! dug out some pproy last night as well. so good.
