80's Sounds You Love

Recommended Posts

My favourite two keyboard sounds from the 1980s.

The Korg M1 - 'Universe'

Roland D50 - 'Soundtrack'

What do other people on here love?

Don't know the synths, but anything from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop from the 70's and 80's

Of course, anything from the famous Yamaha CS-80:

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

That sound in 'Owner of a Lonely Heart', you know the one.

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

Every single synth sound on Dire Straits' album Brothers In Arms. Perfection.

especially that big dx7 bass hit on this track:

and yes the shakuhachi sound was also used on that album :D

I've only got two general contributions that for some reason none of you slackers has said: gated & heavily-reverbed snares, and cheesy, rich saxophone hooks.

Yes!

That intro sound on the song 'Brothers in Arms' and actually the organ solo near the end (hammond?).

Semi-related, I came across this video today and it reminds me of something any one of my bands would have done in the early 90s - take an 80s cover-song (pre-irony) and really rock it up.

The sample of a Japanese Shakuhachi must be the most clichéd sound in 80s music.

Here's who's used it.

Instantly thought of this, although it's a 90's track

My favourites in action.

I miss my M1. Lol the very first track I ever made with it I fucked with the timing at the start and didn't know what I was doing so couldn't fix it.

Also it was great fun to use sitting in a caravan in Cornwall.

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

The synth line in Depeche Mode's "Policy of Truth":

And who can forget "Enjoy the Silence" (although my favourite part of this song is Gore's guitar):
