nothing coming from whathifi needs any serious discussion ever.

no access to the original article but one of the comments reads "The study says they chose 32 kb 56 kb and 112 birates as low middle and high quality because listeners could not reliably tell a difference above 112 kbps. Spotify premium is at 320 kbps. Enough said."

'Normal' SQ on Spotify is 96kbps

edit - audiophiles are a disease though

lol is anything even encoded under 128kbps these days? Even bandcamp's preview is 128.

Illegally streamed films have audio in low bitrate. Music is important in movies so that counts

DAB radio and internet radio are usually <= 128kbps.

XM Satellite radio has an atrocious bitrate. AAC 48kbps, which is low for that codec and probably sounds marginally better than an MP3 encoded at 64kbps....

Low bitrates and even 320 kbps MP3s obviously don't sound as good as lossless formats. Holy shit, who would have guessed? This article is a total lol, basically everyone above has pointed out that really low bitrates sound bad and most people these days listen to at the very least 128 to 320 kbps audio. For some people unless they have a good DAC and amp they can't even tell the difference between a 320 MP3 and a 24/96 FLAC file. Over 90% of my library is in a lossless format but come on, anyone who knows the tiniest bit about digital audio knows that this article is reeeeeeeeeally ridiculous.

I bet you couldn't tell the difference between 320MP3 and FLAC in a blind test
