Awesome groove, mix feels very full. Are you doing a lot of sampling in this?

yeah its mostly samples.. however im doing a lot of keyboard pitch mapping/replaying and stuff like that so it's not just loops etc

this is ace. I want your drum samples. I'm on some generic headphones but I could barely hear the bassline

thanks for the feedback! yeah the bassline is low and mostly subby.. ill think about making it more prominent in the mix but i'm afraid of overwhelming the mix with it.

my main focus on reworking this track (its from ~2013) was getting the drums right. the original drums were pretty boring. I also wanted each section of the song to get it's own separate set of drums so mostly everything has separate snares/hats etc. I reused the same kicks in different sections but programmed them differently each time. I made a lot of use of Izotope Trash2 and the sound toys plugins on each individual drum sound so I'd recommend starting there. Most of the individual drum sounds were knicked from records or some breakbeat sample pack I've had for years. Also.. layering! especially on the snares...most of them are 3 or 4 snares mixed. Adding some stereo noise/clap etc in the back of the snares helps them pop quite a bit. 

Really like this tune. Nice summer feel it to. The sub bass hits at 2:11(apx) are lovely. The tune feels like it could do with some female vocals, if you now what I mean? Reminds me of Jem.

thanks for the comments! never heard of Jem but I listened to a couple tunes on youtube. I can hear some of the more breakbeat-ish stuff might sound similar. not a huge pop fan but interesting comparison!
