51/13 Aphex Singles Collection

Recommended Posts

I know this is mostly a collection of previously released works of his, so it doesn't get much mention, but there's something about the selections and flow that's just fantastic... Does anyone else share the same love of this release? So cool to hear the obscure Ventolin mixes and other oddities amongst his more known singles like On & Donkey Rhubarb. It's a great collection of his odd quirky and creepy sounding tracks, but with the emotional On as the opener, it really tells a great story.

I also remember buying the cd from my local best buy when it came out so it has a special place for me of course, in all its now scratched skipping glory.

It was an interesting release for sure; not quite certain if I would consider it an "official" release just because it is a compilation made for AUS/JPN (if memory serves me correctly).

Trivia question: what does the 51/13 in the title refers to?

interesting! never thought of it as unofficial, and i was gonna ask about the numbers but didnt wanna seem like an afx amateur lol

yes im also guessing its total time length?

If the tracks were licensed then it's technically 'official' since RDJ got paid for it, though it strikes me as a similar situation to when Radiohead were done with EMI around 2005; the label hastily put out a 'Best Of' comp composed of the EMI back cat in order to capitalise of the success that 'In Rainbows' was having... The 'Best Of' is legit technically, but the band do not acknowledge it even though they likely received royalties off of it.

Someone well versed in copyright law please set me straight if I'm off the mark here.
