Does anyone know why Track 4/Hankie was removed from the US CD of Selected Ambient Works Volume II?

Recommended Posts

It's pretty common knowledge that Track 19/Stone In Focus was removed from the UK 2xCD because of CDs 80 minute max (and I supposed Warp didn't want to go for a 3xCD).

However, does anyone know why Track 4/Hankie was removed when the album was brought to the US? I think I once read that US CD players didn't like to play discs that were close to 80 minutes (UK Disc 1 is 14 seconds shy of 80 minutes), but I've been unable to find a source on this.

it was too shitty, I guess.

afaik i usually place all my cum drops on scientifically sterilized glass slides which are carefully frozen and placed in trash cans throughout the city labelled "for women ❤️ alco" with my social security and phone numbers.

I think I remember reading that the U.S execs at Sire didn't think it fit with rest of the album. I think it's great. I find this kind of stuff somewhat infuriating...corporate label execs making decisions as to the creative output of the artists. I believe they changed the On single as well from the UK version...excluding a track and shortening the others.

I suspect you've been unable to find a source on this because it's something you've concocted in your head. I think your little brain has got all in a tizzy about the 14 seconds and you decided to write that post to get that little piece of ocd off your chest. Is that a load off? You were unloading shite, mental diarrhea. We just gotta hope theres enough people around to shovel this up.

'US CD players didn't like to play discs close to 80 minutes, they might start getting mental and spooked out with only 14 seconds to spare' what a load of absolute shit.

But what the OP is saying is that US cd players are behaving differently to the UK ones, like they'd become sentient. He's cooked this up in his mind to try and give a reason why Hankie is missing

whoa  :w00t:

Anything over 74 minutes violates red book standards and depending on who is mastering and pressing those discs that could just be the only reason they needed at the time.

No, it's true that US manufacturers couldn't make 80 min cds back then, their plants hadn't been updated yet. That's also why US In Pine Effect CD was missing The Whale Song from UK CD version.
