here we go folks. i'm doing it. right now. u know. the 4 most important IDM albums. in a row. consecutively. chronologically. i've been preparing for years honestly. ever since i joined watmm.

here's the recipe:

1 technics 1200

1 ortofon red (sorry nerds im not made of money)

2 klipsch cornscala hybrids

4 vinyl IDM albums in question

oh........ which albums you ask???

well it's the *quintessential albums* from the 4 most important "featured artists" on this here forum. Some might think its coincidence that there are released within 1 year of each other. No. I think it's a profound apotheosis of our retarded little neckbeard genre. so here we go and i'll explain later

Confield - Ae April 30th 01

Go Plastic - Squarepusher June 25 01

Drukqs - AFX October 22 01

Geogaddi - BOC February 18 02

that dumb pfork list got my dander up - and i settled on these 4 as actually quite an incredible pie of what IDM "can be"---- for whatever that is worth. which is a bunch of white guys from provincial towns in england who managed to entirely subvert and change the course of electronic music. think about each album and what they give the listener... they all seem completely different in their musical goals and yet somehow, incredibly rooted in the genre of IDM.... and we know how tenuous that can be. we can debate until the cows come home what should be on that list.... yes I know that mouse on mars idiology should be on there, and so should other people place... along with brownout. all released in 01 and incredible. there are so many fantastic electronic music albums that "deserve" to be on there. but the truth is that if we do in fact believe in IDM as a genre, as a movement, as a cohesive genre, we have to obey its geographic and temporal boundaries. no one challenges this when we talk about early jazz, or roots rock, baroque composition.

anyway I'm up to drukqs now what a journey this has been..... will update later with thoughts about each masterwork
