Yeah this is just rappers who sold records that year. They also tried to have it both way giving Nas 94 and Biggie 95, even though the albums in question were both from 94.

Edit - Wu-Tang alone gave us Liquid Swords, Cuban Linx in 95 too.

Nicki Minaj, gimme a fuckin break.  I'd say Adam Horovitz definitely deserves an honorable mention, same for Andre 3000.  Cardi B made an entertaining album last year.
