Had a little jam with mine yesterday at a friend's place. He was playing on an electribe and his other friend was playing with a volca. Everyone, myself included, was blown away at not only the low-end but also the range and quality out of this thing.

I was also shocked at how much precision this one has over the PO-12 (the only one I have to compare it to). The parameter lock system makes basslines and melodies a real possibility. Also the parameter transitions are buttery smooth. You can just about make a full track with this one, certainly if you add a volca or two.

Looking forward to the ice melting off the sidewalks so I can walk/bus to work again, just to have an excuse to play with this thing twice a day.

If this had a switchable backlight and a MIDI input, and maybe another bank of patterns, it would be pretty much perfect. If TE released a deluxe version with these features in a slightly bigger form factor, they'd sell as fast as they could make them.

Really hoping to see the sampler version of this soon.

both my submissions for the most idm comp this year feature microtonic and the po-32, hope they get in.. I love the po:'s but this one beats all of the others by far

edit: the 24 has the best sequencer imo you can use the effects outside of play mode! which is really cool... protip for the 32 - if you double click a sound it mutes it!

wouldn't let me edit: I'm sure with a bit of basic soldering and electronics knowledge you could make it understand midi!

I know you can hold down a sound button to mute its column's synth voice but double clicking doesn't seem to do anything? Would be a cool trick if I could figure out how to do it.

Also from what I've read the 24 seems to be really similar to the 12 except it has a solo feature. That's pretty cool.

ok the holding down it is! seemed to remember it was double pressing, sorry!

edit: the 24 has the same parameter lock features as the 32, and a couple of sweet melodic sounds.. but yeah 32 beats both 24 and 12 in the end

also, you say you want a sampler but you don't really need one imo considering you can synthesise almost anything with microtonic!

No worries!

Things I can't synthesize with Microtonic:

- Funk records

- Kung fu movie sound fx

- Old anime sound fx (actually that's not necessarily true - see preset #4!)

- Bad sci-fi dialog

- Field recordings

- FX feedback loop jam sessions

- Chord stabs

But that's cool! I've got other samplers, just none anywhere near as cute as a PO.

you can do all that with post filtering!

the correct order of buttons is sound+button+write+turing knobs

Solo trick is nice!

That led me to find another one - acc+button = preview accented sound. I guess that probably should have been obvious, ha. Nice to know, though.

i can't help myself. i just keep turning the drive up and now half of my kit is suuuper dirty o_O

have you guys messed with the morph feature much? it's a bit hard for me to grasp fully but in essence it can allow you to have two completely different sounds per patch and then a middle ground that is essentially a combination of those two patches (3rd patch)

Yep :) It's a brilliant feature because it effectively makes that second knob do whatever you want. I like it a lot on that snare preset where it goes from a short little pop to a nice "reverb" tail.

Don't forget about scripting stuff inside microtonic. You can produce pretty wild stuff with 'em and then use this with PO.

There are some useful scripts on sonic charge forum.
