has anyone ever successfully used the external midi clock out of traktor with traktor 8?

Recommended Posts

ive followed the instructions to the letter, i know the box outputs midi fine because it works with ableton, but for whatever reason it flat out refuses to output a midi pulse in traktor. anyone ever experienced this? its one of those problems that even no-one on youtube seems to be having.

What are you outputting to?

And are you sure you pressed play also on the little button under the clock panel? Just checking.

outputting to yarns on my modular, i want to be able to play samples through my modular effect rack in tandem with the tunes im djing. and yeah i pressed play on the wee clock/metronome section, created a generic midi controller and set it to the midi output of the traktor box. both my modular and my blofeld are set to midi omni. kind of out of ideas.

Okay, this is kinda vague so sorry for this but I remember having to add a controller page in the controller manager where I added "clock send" and "clock trigger midi sync" with the out set to traktor virtual output or whatever port you want to use before getting traktor's clock to work, I can't remember wether I actually assigned these commands to a midi controller for them to work, think not.

Are you on osx? Can you check the signals with an iac port and midi monitor?

These were midi in commands on the controller page btw. Know this doesn't make any sense but this is what was needed for me to get midi out to ableton before link was introduced.

no, i appreciate your attempt to help but im not trying to send a virtual signal but an external one.

followed this guide

to the letter. but im out of ideas now. the problem is within traktor, because using ableton as a host allows me to send midi to my modular fine, but no matter what i try with this its to no avail. thanks anyway man. i might just have to waste 25 quid going to my synth/software wizard man in the town.

nope, tried every single possible variation of the manual/instructions, every option i could inf in traktor, asked my friend in my synth shop, nothing, just didnt work.

ended up using a work around that actually suits me better, i send an internal midi clock from traktor to ableton, i run the sound from traktor out using my traktorS2 controllors built in soundcard, then i use the traktor 8 box in ableton and run my modular+the third cdj channel through ableton. this way i can sidechain the signal to my 4/4 pulse aswell.

it works fine. you need to do that weird controller thing, set a running master clock and click the small sync button.

this did not work also.

Soooo... could you maybe have Ableton running in the background and have that send out the midi signal? Could you maybe even get Ableton to be the slave to Traktor? I know Traktor isn't a daw but something tells me that Ableton is flexible enough to somehow get connected to Traktor

EDIT:

I knew it...!

It's a bit of a workaround but that SHOULD fix your problem... I think?

oh yeah sorry i didnt come back to this, thanks for the help. i got it sorted by using both my s2 as a soundcard in traktor, and my traktor 8 box in ableton, and then sending an internal midi signal from the mastr tempo in traktor through to ableton. it actually works much better, because i can load up a bunch of different midi sequences and have them ready to go to control the modular. got my first semi-live set in 2 weeks, pretty nervous about it, gonna have to get some serious practice in building nice modular patches in under a minute or so.
