Revision music

Hey, so it's getting into exam season for a lot of people, and i'm guessing a fair few people here are students or have been in the past, so thought i'd try for some advice.

I have this issue every year, where i'm spending all my time sitting at a desk working through a seemingly endless pile of material, but i just can't bring myself to do it in complete silence. When i listen to music at the same time though, i often end up zoning in to that, and not actually taking anything in.

So hit me with some revision music. Stuff that'll fill the silence but not command too much attention. I'm guessing long-form ambient stuff, or repetitive beats are probably the way to go. In fact, someone sitting next to me at the library the other day was listening to a 10 hour white noise youtube video. I just wanna listen to elseq tho :(

(Writing this post was some nice procrastination. Back to it i guess...)

I have the same issue at work. Soothing my mind with Tim Hecker and Celer today, but you're right, any sort of ambient or drone can do the job. Check out the Music for Programming series as well, intended to be mixes for more background ambience https://musicforprogramming.net/

"Lo fi hip hop beat" streams are all trendy now on youtube too, give that a search, will likely fill your need for some relaxed repetition.

If all else fails one up your study buddy with some Merzbow.

Stoked to watch OA II. The movement thing never bothered me, anyone familiar with Druidic studies will recognize the importance of movement to get to higher planes.

Of all the ambient or whatever droney things I tried, this is easily the best thing to me. It's like a cheat code, whenever I put this on I just bash through my assignments. It's been absolutely essential in finishing my thesis.

Seriously, if this doesn't do it for you, you're doomed. DOOMED.

Also the usual stuff, Merzbow, Elaine Radigue. Also, people who mention music with vocals in them in here are absolutely insane.

I'm in this boat right now and I've been listening to a lot of Koen Holtkamp, particularly the tracks "Battenkill" off of Liquid Light Forms and "Scene I" off of Voice Model. Droning synthy ambience, great for focus. Also M. Geddes Gengras, particularly Ishi and Test Leads (the new one is a little too involved) both feel like a brain massage.

Worst case I typically default to System 7 - Fire + Water.

I like loopy techno or house stuff that can be easily sidelined as background stuff - the field (one of my first productive days when I started a drafting job was with the field on spotify from hours on end) , gas, and/or dub techno in general or newer kosmishe music like expo 70
