sine nomine
I remember rob brown saying something like "try making shit tracks" (AAA) I'm not sure i understood, but i think maybe he meant not to take oneself so seriously? well anyways i'm enjoying making beats more than ever and these tracks are very rough and well I'm not after perfection (mix wise) I'm more interested in getting my head bobbing to something, if it does then I'll bounce it. So please feel free to critique, or suggest/comment on anything. Thanks in advance - peace. https://soundcloud.com/sinenomine-2439/sets/sht-tracks https://soundcloud.com/sinenomine-2439/sht-track-2 https://soundcloud.com/sinenomine-2439/sht-track-3 https://soundcloud.com/sinenomine-2439/sht-track-4 https://soundcloud.com/sinenomine-2439/sht-track-5 https://soundcloud.com/sinenomine-2439/sht-track-6 https://soundcloud.com/sinenomine-2439/sht-track-7 Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/93018-sine-nomine-sht-tracks/ Share on other sites
Auditor
Well, track 1 goes on for way too long. Maybe try mixing a bit of 2 and 3 into it? Track 4 I like, especially the lazerlike kick and the scattershot beat. I think these are exactly what you said - sketches. There are seeds of ideas in all of them, so you should focus on arranging. Or not. If you're having fun, then that's whatsup. I don't know exactly what kind of crits you're expecting though. koolkeyZ865
You have something going really good in tracks 5 and 6, those are definitely worth expanding upon. Mixing tracks 1 and 3 together would be interesting, I'm trying to imagine three below a slower and harder bass line and it's pretty lush in my head. Do you have any kind of link to that Rob Brown quote, cause I'd like to hear more from him on that. Every now and then, I try to focus on just enjoying myself when writing something, but it usually doesn't work -- too self-critical. This is a video I watch, sometimes, before a session: Also, track 6 was my favorite. As you stated, I am just having fun with these - arrangement is something id like to focus on next though - i actually hadnt thought of mixing in track 2-3 with one, thanks for the idea ... and any critique is welcome man, Im not expecting anything in particular :-) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/93018-sine-nomine-sht-tracks/#findComment-2539619 Share on other sites

I can really relate to the self critical almost self hate of my work man. i would always start something and then after 4 hours of doing something i'd end up deleting it anyways and by the end i had a tracks folder which was always empty - essentially i just got sick and tired of deleting my work, keeping everything now no matter how shit.
