Which side of a vinyl cover is strongest?

Debating with a friend which side is best to store records on.  Does the "bottom" edge, with the folded cover glued beneath it provide the best edge to rest the record on, or does the spine have the sturdiest edge of the cover?  I realize the titles are listed on the spine, but I keep my discs in Container Store crates anyway, so all that's visible is the front / back artwork.

I realize storing them "right side up" prevents dust from falling into the open edge (if you're not using sleeves).  Also, I see a lot of vinyls with a split edge on the top / bottom (possibly from storage or shipping), but almost never the spine.

You never see the split on the spine because nobody stores them that way. Store them whichever way pleases you, if a spine splits the album probably still sounds good.

But yeah, I'm thinking the bottom edge is the sturdiest of the three.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

That's because the inner sleeves are positioned so that the opening is vertical.

I'm sure a lot of it depends on the quality of the board, and inners.  I've seen super nice ones before from labels that care, and shit from labels that don't.  To me, Norman has pretty much written the book on packaging for shipment, but bleep has come up some recently with that spiderweb shit they use in boxes.

Yeah I definitely think a lot of the spine splits are due to shipping, and the packaging that is used. Norman already have a great service where you can request them to open the cellophane and remove the records from the outer sleeve, which I now use all the time.
