Sylvan Esso - What Now

I like really like this group, their 2014 release was in my top 10, probaly top 5 in retrospect, which is saying a lot considering what else came out that year. Among the poppier side of indie electronic music, which is a sea of mediocrity, they really stand out. I'd say Purity Ring, Phantogram, Little Dragon, Grimes and The XX are up there but Amelia's vocals are my favorite hands down, her voice has this timeless quality to it.

CoS review and nice primer on the duo. Curious what the rest of the album sounds like, the two singles are quite different from each other tempo wise.

I thought these guys were a knockoff Purity Ring for a while but then PR's second album was a snooze, so your move Sylvan Esso. Blow me away

They got that let's rave it up in the olde rockytop barn thing going on. Not a fan of Radio. Liked that coffee track a few years back or whatever it was called...

First album was good and still gets played. Some greats tracks on it. Coffee as mentioned, plus I have a soft spot for HSKT. New tracks not setting my world on fire at the moment.

They are both pretty similar to me, IIRC both duos are made up of musicians who had indie rock or other non-electronic projects before they gave the synthpop sound a chance. I almost get the impression they were like "I can sing better and you can produce better than most of this other stuff out there" when they formed. Both Amelia and Megan are better singers than a lot of their peers (I like them a lot more than Chvrches for example) and hell of a lot better than what I hear from snippets of EDM I'm exposed to.

Yeah I'm hoping for more engaging tracks than the singles. I like both of them but they haven't clicked as much as their more emotional tracks from the debut.

Yep, from North Carolina. She was in a folk group too, her voice does has that vibe.
