I've noticed some people saying that this is a very repetitive track.

Have you taken notice that despite the basis of this track being 2 chords uneasily shifting between each other, each repetition of the sequence has a different and unique interpretation?

Makes me think that my ears are tuned differently than others. For me, this is like a classical piece — variations on a theme — so I don't fully understand the criticism. I would be very surprised if someone who had come to enjoy oval's work came to this track and found it 'repetitive', as I do think "do while" from 94 discont operates on a similarly subtle level.

that is all.

to me, the best long-form AE tracks have some form of emotional variation throughout (irlite, Sublimit, Garbagemx, Drane2...)

eastre is very uniform in that respect... there certainly is very subtle musical variation, but not enough emotional variation, which is why it overstays its welcome quite a bit

I actually love that track, it really asks to be heard and not just listened to. The subtle variations in texture and electronic weirdness is very beautiful. However I do have to be in the mood for it. It's so immense sounding also, arrghhhh I can really get lost in this track

Yes, VLetrmx91 also does that emotional thing for me, you're right on the lack of emotional emphasis of eastre but it does take me somewhere, it's like an unrecognisable emotional thing, no as accessible as VLetrmx91 perhaps, but asking for undivided attention regardless

right, i see where you're coming from.... more "hypnotic" than overtly emotional perhaps

in fact, Vletrmx is a great example of a "repetitive" AE track that nonetheless has exciting emotional variations throughout. It's the changing intensity of the notes, rather than changes in the actual melody itself, that makes it engaging to listen to.

Yeah definitely entrancing and hypnotic is what I'd describe eastre as, and minutely detailed. Indeed, VLetrmx91 has amazing progression and like you said each note change is what really hits home for me on that, it's like they picked the perfect thing to say on that track, one of my favs also.

The old background loop on their webpage (sorta secret, so don't spoil further) seems like an early prototype of eastre now:

drumouth

I actually like it more

I totally forgot about that, and there is a touch of similarity between them, you're right.

It's one of my Elseq faves, but like Sine Nomine said, you have to be in the right mood. It has both a hypnotic and meditative quality to it, and I haven't heard an Ae track quite like it yet. Some Elseq tracks are offshoots of the Ae Live (2014-2015) sets, but not this one.

And I listened to this on Easter this year because I'm a nerd. April 16th this year I think it was.

I’ve seen people use the word “atonal” to describe Ae music on occasion. I’ve never heard an Ae track that doesn’t have a tonal center until Eastre here. This track VASCILLATES like it’s lubed…
