heh, i just finished the New Crobozun trilogy, sporadically brilliant stuff. really inventive. Iron Council was a bit of a let down but the first two were great. 

i used to feel like that about Iron Council too, my favourite being Perdido Street Station.  however after multiple reads of the trilogy i probably now like Iron Council the best, then The Scar, with PSS being my least favourite... they're all still excellent though.  them Slake Moths are terrifying!

yeah, it was just kind of jolting to go to the flashback of the inception of the council for like an entire third of the page count in the middle of the book. gave the story a kind of meandering vibe. 

Slake is nice, consuming stuff!
