The Town That Produces No Trash

A small town in Japan called Kamikatsu recycles almost everything and produces no trash. The 1500 residents are determined to go waste-free by 2020.

Cool. Reminds me of the Chinese Liuzhou forest city idea from not too long ago. Hopefully with these tenable smaller scale experiments, upwardly scaling advancements from them are made, and aren't just left to waste.

this is exactly while small town communal living is preferred to the depressing fat cat paradises that most everyone lives in

Also reminds me of these people in Mumbai which manually recycle plastics by hand (via necessity out of poverty), with recyclability of plastics at 80%, compared to the UK's 23% (in 2010). The key is getting this stuff tenable on an industrial level somehow, whether via regulation or by profit.

japan as so many fucking ideas, some of them stick and some of them are total dead ends but i feel like the japanese brain is more stretchy than any on the planet. like ideasthesia.
