One of my favourite songs from the 80's... regretted not seeing AFOS reunited on a tour in the late 90's...

great tune, got in on my 'random pop' Spotify playlist

if the contents of that particular playlist ever leaked onto watmm, I'd probably go into hiding....

very enjoyable era of music

I'll be listening to AFOS, Tears for Fears, and Simple Minds for the rest of the day. ha

Simple Minds

I felt nostalgic for this one a while back and discovered that they did not age well at all.

That was always my favourite AFOS song over I Ran. Their "Best of" album basically is the perfect AFOS compilation:

Well I'll be damned, never heard this somehow. Maybe some satiellie radio stations play it but I only ever heard "I Ran" on classic pop radio rotations. UK charts seem to be kinder to bands in terms ushering more hits...and more fluke and weird singles.

I can't say I know any song besides "don't you (forget about me)"

You know what has aged well, or was like stupid prophetic / influential? Dream Academy's "Life In a Northern Town" - from Enya "Orinoco Flow" to Bastille's "Pompeii" I feel like that chorus has been rehashed a lot over the decades.

Interesting tidbit: Simple Minds didn't even write Don't You (Forget About Me) - it was written for the movie The Breakfast Club, and Simple Minds initially didn't want to perform someone else's song. Add insult to injury when it became their biggest hit!

I'll stand by Simple Minds being an awesome band. Their first few albums (up to and including Sparkle in the Rain) were fkn excellent.

Also, A-ha's discography is worth a look. Scoundrel Days has some great Synclavier tracks:

^ the middle section sounds like early 90s demoscene music!

I'm not standing for this dissing of Simple Minds. Listen to I Travel then come back here and apologise.

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

The singer moved down to my area in Clearwater FL in the 90s. They did a lot of small gigs, basically any local club or bar that would host them. They still tour.

Flock of segulls & Simple Minds are the kind of bands i actively seek when the IDM scene is dull...(majority of the time for me)

In fact pretty much all 180 songs on my Hello Kitty Mp3 player are pop songs...

80's bands can have some killer tunes hidden away in their back catalogue (before they got famous or before they got stereotyped by their big pop chart song)
