This performance features tons of off-kilter beats, resonance, and odd atmospheres.

I really love how thorough and disciplined you are in exploring this tuned drum delay aesthetic! I really haven't heard much else like it at this level. Very satisfying listening experience, especially on headphones!

There's a few COH albums which sound similar (but different enough from 16E8C02):

It's a really niche sound I wish more artists would explore.

Second listen — those rhythms are doing my head in. Pretty impressed this was performed life. Care to elaborate on your methods?

Thanks for the kind words, gents! I'm definitely aiming to explore this sound further and intend on building a hardware set, but it may have a very different sound. We'll see how that works out.

In a nutshell, I'm running a bunch of beats programmed in Ableton Live and each track has a delay unit with a specific delay speed. I'm messing with plugins the entire time and trigger things with an APC40. Also, some of the ambient stuff is a Novation Bass Station II put through some effects.

When I started this, I was just doing what came naturally, so the beats are pretty weird just because it's how my body naturally wants to move.

It was written on headphones, so that was how it was intended to be heard, but in my opinion, the best way to hear it is live. If the room is the right shape, it fills with resonance and feels like a massage.

A few of you were kind enough to recommend this album in the 2018 Album of the Year nominations thread. Just bumping this so others will know about it.

Also, I did another small jam in this style recently (which I'm planning on cleaning up eventually):

It is a very good album, listened to it many times over the last 3 months or so. That new track sounds good too, curious to hear where you take that technique

Unread replies

it's many months later and this is still really good. bass at the end of track 2 makes the keys on my car's rearview mirror vibrate in just the right way.

If you wanted to own this album on physical media, then you're in luck! This album is getting a cassette release through Schematic on 2/21.

Glad to finally be able to announce this. The designer Raphael Arar and I worked on the design for the tape and it looks pretty cool, imho. The tape also comes with a couple bonus tracks.

Here is a video that was made by the talented Maria Mendes to help celebrate the occasion.
