The Last Few Minutes of Happy Cycling... Pure Bliss

Recommended Posts

The last few minutes of Happy Cycling (6:26 onwards) from Music Has The Right To Children... pure bliss, and perfect music for a cool fall day:

MHTRTC is easily one of the best records of the 20th century.

Mans, one of the hallmarks of great early BoC were these magic-infused ostinatos that they'd sometimes close tracks with, beckoning you to drift off to infinity with them.  It's not really part of their sound anymore but here are two remixes from around MHTRTC that have similarly lush, just-hook-it-to-my-veins outros:

I love those, it's reminds me of some tracks you'd hear from the 90s: usually with drum loops, often happy downtempo stuff in the era when BoC was recording their earlier stuff and in that same period when trip-hop in it's infancy, IDM wasn't totally equated with drill n bass, and shoegaze/dream pop bands were playing around a lot with electronic music influence

or even more "chillout" tracks from 90s electronica acts like the Chemical Brothers

this is fairly new but similar vibe

That’s a strong statement and it’s undoubtedly true. I’d put it up there with Miles Davis’s A Kind of Blue among the greatest records ever recorded.

uh wow it's nowhere near the best of the 20th century lol come on guys. i wouldn't put anything related to this forum on the "best of the 20th century" except SAW II of course

It's no The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, or Remain In Light, or What's Goin' On, but in our lil watmm corner of the music universe, it is a bright star.

it's when Albert Hofmann's accidental LSD trip kicked in.

Kind of an plainly obvious choice, but this whole album is ideal while peaking on LSD.

And you'd be wrong about MHTRTC - I think you need to listen again. SAW II is a special release too - I'd say it's up there as well. ICBYD ranks higher for me, but that's just my humble opinion.

Not to digress too much but just realized how good Chet Baker - Live At Nick's is after he came back from being beaten up and jaw broken. On my list of top tops from 20th century.
