hey i'm looking to play shows / parties / night in the Boston area. But you know, it's like braindance/iDM/electro stuff. I dunno, is there anything like that happening around here?

I live in the area, but I’m not exactly up to speed on any kind of local IDM presence. I think you could pull this off at The Middle East in Cambridge. I notice a lot of random DJs and stuff when I peruse their events calendar. I don’t know about any secret basement shows or anything but in that case I’d look into the Allston area since it’s a crusty hipstery kinda area.

yeah at a place like that you have to pitch the night. show Facebook pages of artists, convince them enough people will show up. hard to see that going somewhere. but maybe I can reach out to one of the bookers with some of my tracks and see if they think I might fit in somewhere

better chance seems like some bar with college kids / music nerds where you try an electro idm night a few DJs

best chance is a someone already throwing weird illegal parties in Worcester.

Hey that's where I was born!

Would love to come visit and see some idm in the area. Imagine a watmm meetup! We could get some good seafood too.

And yeah I second the Middle East as well. Maybe even around amoeba records.

Yeah, Middle East and other “big” places (the Sinclair, Good Life if it’s still a thing, Middlesex Lounge if it’s still a thing) are probably too big, unless you can glom onto an existing show or scene.

But there’s tons of small stuff happening. My knowledge is a couple years old now, but I saw Kouhei Matsunaga in a tiny artist loft, a bunch of great stuff at like house shows, etc.

Hard to get started without having an “in” somewhere I imagine — most people (rightly) want to see / play with other artists who are their friends at that scale. Just start going to things is probably the best suggestion.

I wish we had an amoeba records in Boston :(

yeah the house show / warehouse space / artist space thing is probably the way to go. just not sure how to get connected in the first place. got a name from RSP that i'm trying to chase down. Any other leads? promoters on twitter? parties?

Aaahh sorry I realize now I meant Newburry Comics, a pretty rad record store there. Lotta punk, and obscure gems.

Another cool place if it's still around could the Garment District. It's a clothing store where you walk through mountains of used clothes and they weigh and sell it by the pound. Not a venue, but always thought it would be cool to have artists play there.

The last venue I played in Boston was The Enormous Room. Pretty sure it's closed now, but there may be another venue in its place. It was like a block away from The Middle East.
