In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, ambient architect Brian Eno will release a remastered version of his album Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks alongside a new album of original compositions.

For All Mankind takes its name from the 1983 documentary by Al Reinert, for which the original Apollo album was intended to accompany. Check out the stunning visuals for a new track, ‘Like I Was A Spectator’, now.

The new album features 11 new instrumental compositions, and sees Eno working alongside both his brother Roger and Daniel Lanois for the first time since the recording of Apollo.

Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks – Extended Edition, which includes both the remastered edition of Apollo and For All Mankind, arrives on July 19 and will be available digitally, on CD and vinyl.

The Original Masters reissue from 2004 is likely the last word on how Apollo, and the other Eno LPs reissued in that series, should sound. The prospect of getting a new companion LP is exciting though, and I certainly hope there is an option to purchase it independent of the original. Not yet in love with this new track, but it is nice... Just nice doesn't cut it compared to most anything on Apollo though; this sounds so antiseptic and icy, and the bass synth that comes in is not complimenting the composition either to these ears.

Perhaps the majesty of the tracks on Apollo had more to do with happenstance/creative strictures within the studios it was made in and less to do with sheer compositional brilliance. This new track has me ruminating upon this possibility. Apollo is pretty much my fav LP I've ever heard though, so I'm unashamedly biased.

Agreed. The last batch of Eno remasters sound amazing. I can’t see how it can get any better than that.

I only found out about this a few days ago and really wish I could have gotten in on the early pre-order.

Oh, sure. I mean, I dunno. But I was just referring to the audio/remastering itself. The 2004 remastered editions already sound great.

Arrived yesterday. The original still stands as a landmark of ambient electronic music. Listening to the new mastering, I still got that feeling I had when I first bought this as a teenager in 1987. I'm not sure the new material adds much and it's only really on the last two or three pieces closing the second disc that I think they capture the haunting mystery of the original.

Still good to have a reissue but the original album was so immaculately engineered and produced that I couldn't really see the pint of the 2004 remaster, let alone this one.

If you've never heard this album, then maybe now is a good time - especially as it ties in nicely with the 50th anniversary celebrations.

One of the many versions of For All Mankind included an otherwise unreleased track by Brian called "Black Sedan".

I've never been able to find out why it got cut.

I just nabbed the vinyl at my local shop and ?

I’ve wanted this LP on record for a long time and it’s always too pricey when I find it. Considering, the 2nd LP makes it more than worth it!

AND the  second disc of new stuff is really great! Although, the second track on side c skips ?

Anyone else have this problem?

*Edit*

I exchanged it at my store and the replacement copy still skips on the same track (though not as bad as the last one).
