was pointed out here that the beginning of "recks on" sounds a lot like this:

run dmc sample at 1:55 is used in a really similar way near the end of "the plc":

also there's sort of a whirling sound at the end of YJY UX that sounds like the sound at 6:18 here:

thinking of cases where they don't just sample other music--but sort of "recreate" a moment from some else's track instead of twisting it into something completely different. idk if that distinction makes sense.

they were done with an oberheim dmx / dx iirc, as was lots of 80s hip hop

Yes for sure.

Could equally easily have been sampled from Hollis Crew tbf. Of course the DMX was used in loads of other stuff but that sound in Pen Expers is well characteristic of the drums in those 2 tunes.

actually the line is 'jam like a tekker' as in a tech 9 pistol or somesuch. just kinda sounds like autechre so they sampled it :)

i think there's an older thread (or many) that compile some autechre 'quoting' and sampling bits and such. might take some digging but i know they've popped up at various times over the years....in case anyone reading is curious in digging and resurfacing some of that lost knowledge/speculation
