I really think they have chosen this gray (which is almost pitch black) just to disregard our expectations

from my pc the black is slightly opaque, a darker version of this, but at this point I wonder if it is not my monitor set incorrectly ...

It should start as a relatively normal, but maybe black and white, movie about two lads from Manchester and then just get increasingly more abstract and include more CGI and towards the end it's just abstract shapes flashed on the screen at high speed until the last hour is only a droning sound with old analog TV static. Total runtime 16 hours.
