Online Group Games for COVID-times

Recommended Posts

Hey Buddies. Hope you're all staying safe/healthy.

I'm hoping to collect/share good (and preferably free) games to play so we can connect with family & friends, while we are all isolated in quarantines & lockdowns.

Post the ones you like with a brief description and/or pitch.

I'll kick off with 2.

GAME#1

Dominion Online

This one we played with a friend last night. It is a massively popular, super nerdy card game that you can play, either in tables you start or tables other people start that you can join.

There are free versions, as well as subscription versions. You might get an idea of how it works from the image. We played on laptops. Not sure if there is a way to play it on mobile.

In Dominion Online, you can play games of Dominion either against a human opponent or a bot. A human opponent can be found automatically via a matchmaking system based on rating, or can be invited by creating your own Dominion table. By creating your own table, you can also customize your kingdom (that is, the cards with which you are playing).

Almost all Dominion cards from all existing expansions can be found in Dominion Online; the only exceptions are the 12 removed cards from the first editions of Base Dominion and Intrigue, as well as Stash, due to technical difficulties with its implementation.

Right now, many features are still missing from the Dominion Online system, including campaigns, animations, and multi-platform support. The reason for this is that the product is still relatively new and was released on January 1, 2017. These and other features are all mentioned in the priority list on the official Shuffle iT forums.

Dominion Online is available in Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, and Russian, with more languages to be added in the future.

GAME #2

drawful2

This one we've played with friends several times. It's definitely WAY more accessible and great for playing with all ages.

You are each given separate things you have to draw on your mobile (we played on mobile, not sure if it's also available for desktop... but I think it is... it's easier on mobile) . Then you each get to guess what was drawn and vote on the best guesses. Super goofy & low stakes. Tons of fun.

Here's a video review...

PLEASE NOTE....

These are both way more fun if you are able to play with your friends while on a facetime or zoom call. Then you can all goof around and it feels more like you are really playing with your friends.

POST YOURS PLEASE!

I can vouch for jackbox.tv - pretty fun site for Scattergory/Pictionary type games, with an amusing virtual host.  It's from the company that did You Don't Know Jack, trivia game from the 90's.  Had a games night with friends there earlier this week.

Played Scrabble with a lady from the dating apps here last night: https://earlyaccess.pogo.com/

Cool thread, will try drawful when i can get people to get it..

Excited to hear more!

I briefly checked which board games have online verisons, and Catan Universe is free to play.  Istanbul also has a digital version, another great game, but it costs 10 bucks which might be steep if all need to own it.

A friend of mine tipped me off that this place is having a sale...

and they have an online version of The Thing board game (which I’ve played and it is amazing... a bit like Clue meets Secret Hitler or Werewolf). I’m still trying to figure out exactly how to make it all work but here is some link about it...
