So as many of you long-time members recall, we had a chat module on the site we called CHATMM that was built into the forums. It was heavily used until the forum software vendor retired it, and for a long time there wasn't any decent replacements.

When Houston Day for Night happened, we started using Discord to keep in touch at the festival and later we implemented a WATMM Discord that really didn't take off as the integration with the forum wasn't good, and was problematic in validating users, etc.

Once we upgraded the forum software, third-party vendors offered integrated chatroom addons which we have now, and the developer has steadily been improving things to the point now that the current chatroom is far superior in features and functionality than the original one ever was.

Yet, nobody seems to use it - why?

I'd like to get some real feedback about the reasons, and yes I know there's another Discord that a few WATMM users frequent - however, I don't manage or maintain that Discord, so as far as I am concerned it is not associated with WATMM, and would rather it not be since the behavior there is contrary to the rules and direction set out by WATMM that users here abide to.

I voted for "I don't like chat rooms" but it's not so much because I think they've had their time, as I was never that into them. I just don't spend enough time on the forums so sit and inject myself into chat vs hopping into specific threads that interest me.

Well, mainly because there's never anyone in there...

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

same for me.  Also i found the old chatmm a bit intimidating i think.. only checked it out once.  some of the threads here are already sort of like chatrooms anyway (such as now playing thread). But mostly a forum fills a different role and im here for the forum functionality.

The thing is, CHATMM is not the day for night discord that you have turned into that dead watmm official discord.

CHATMM was a loose collective of regulars in the original flash add-on to watmm. And then cast out by watmm.

When that was disabled and not fixed for months, we found somewhere else to do what we do.

this is very transphobic and ableist tbqh

I would sit in there some days and rarely would anyone else come in.   Eventually my craving for some kind of human connection fades and I leave.

So I tried,  but nobody else seemed very interested.

The discord has been dead lately when I’ve tried to chat. I spent hundreds of hours in chatmm, but now I have kids and cant really reconcile being a father and opening links to a gif of a hot wheels track that terminates into a gaping asshole in the last frame, which is the kind of content all the original dank meme vaporwave lore chatmm members post now.

also, I think people are a lot more numb from social media saturation these days. Chatmm just doesn’t hit the receptors the same way anymore, hence all the risky clicks.
