It was such a bedrock in the music both in mainstream and more leftfield and underground music

I really miss it, can't remember the last time I heard a new track and thought 'oh my gosh that's from [insert TV or film or classic track]'

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

IMO sampling too many lines of TV/movie dialogue in a track is annoying and distracting. I want to hear the music, and not some random conversation from a movie. sampling a few words to include in a track here or there is ok, if they can be blended in and manipulated creatively so they match the vibe of the music.

Totally agree. Spoken word samples almost always ruin a track for me. It interrupts whatever "story" of the track you're getting on your own and forces some other very specific narrative onto it. That said, just about every artist does it once in awhile.
