Yeah same here, partly hoping that it'll be a phase and partly annoyed that I can't seem to get properly into the live stuff.

Being at the concert is another thing entirely and I've enjoyed thoroughly the couple of times I've had the pleasure, but listening at home (even to the very same set I heard live) almost like they're so good at tailoring something for a specific medium that when taken out of its intended context loses something. The one part I've discovered so far that sits alongside their "studio" type stuff is the first half hour of Dublin '18, It's the slow birthing of a shimripl casual!

Funnily enough I've had the completely opposite reaction with the current sets - didn't enjoy it at all on the day (caught 'London A') but I've kept coming back to these sets more and more, probably got far more hours listened than Sign or Plus.

I find it helps to just start with one or two and get really familiar before deep-diving into the whole lot.  Maybe give London B a few goes first?  I'd put some of that set right up there with their absolute best album tracks, and the 'difficult' section in the middle is not nearly as unsettling as some of the 'A' set.

Before SIGN/PLUS dropped I was hoping for a concise album with short musically tight tracks (a la Quaristic I guess) to work as a counterpoint against years of vastness

That’s almost exactly what ae released with SIGN/PLUS but I think COVID ruined the timing

I would doo anything, for my sweet sixteenth

So no new studio album ? Would Warp accept that ?

Check out the full article. They basically said they have a new deal with Warp and they can just release stuff when they see fit and Warp has been going about leaving them alone to do that

good read yeah…hearing about the new deal with Warp & them being cool with AE just dropping stuff online when they want is going to be what they’re planning it sounds like. i’m guessing that’s mostly going to be live sets the way they’re talking but that’s not explicitly stated.

Lovely read! They look old.

I seem to be part of the minority group that is sad to see them letting the album format go. I've never been as hyped or excited for the live soundboards. They are very good of course but with an album you can identify different parts and remember certain song/ go back to them. I'll put on an album way quicker than a soundboard.

Will read later at home, I’m on my phone right now. Always happy about them doing interviews !

Maybe quality control and not overwhelming people with too much (similar) material? Plus mastering and artwork. They'll be out before the year is over, take it easy.

Lol hi, you must be new here

Anyone knows Seans Bandcamp account?
seems like an interesting account to follow 😉

Sean: These artists can't be selling more than a few 100 copies of each thing. Most of the music I'm buying on Bandcamp are people nobody's heard of and there's fucking millions of these things coming out. So much of it's good, but nobody knows about it because there's so much of it. So it's just how do you [find the] needle in a haystack? You know, how do you even find things now? Then you've got the next tier up is like, your boom cat artists. When we were coming up where you could get to #1 in the indie charts with a good electronic reference. Nowadays you need the height behind you before you even get the thing out.

Sean and Rob read the the SIGN/PLUS thread on WATMM and were like : "never more"

lols..i bet the mood will change at some point and they'll do something different. hard to imagine there's not a part 14.7 to 'recks on' somewhere in the future.  also, Rob must have folders stuffed with Spaces How_V and bladelores type shit and MPC1000 jams of full sysexDemon mode.

also, gotta wonder, they renegotiated their deal w/warp. i wonder if that means they can release under aliases now?

so who knows.. moods are moods.. the future is the future. now is now.

i listened to elliot smith's "everything means nothing to me" on youtube. one of the top comments is interesting:

"Elliott told me about having a psychotic episode while he was [recording Figure 8]," says McConnell, a producer "He was fed up with the current state of his life. A lot of people from the label were telling him he needed to get it together. He was so sick of people talking about the future. So he carved the word 'now' into his arm with a knife. And he sat down at the piano and wrote 'Everything Means Nothing to Me' as the blood was dripping down his arm."

It's pretty cool that they have the freedom to do whatever they want. The live material is uncompromising and unlikely to draw casual listeners, but I imagine the extensive back catalogue does away with that concern for Warp, a business.

I'm a tiny bit bummed because I love the conceptual frame around an album, it makes the challenging or more difficult patches hit harder. even with the long form albums such as elseq, there are moments to breathe, pacing between moments of oblivion. the live sets seem pretty full on IMO.

honorary retirement vibez

anyways cool to know Chris Cunningham somehow shaped aesthetics direction at Anvil Vapre times. feels like Ae got rid of some cheeziness since then

I find the thought of new LP releases so boring in comparison to the live stuff the put out- it’s very limiting in comparison

In the live sessions you completely emerge yourself while LPs are this bit sized stuff limited in time to an ancient medium that’s not relevant anymore
