Pretty much what NTS sessions is, even ends with those super long tracks like Underworld did with The Necks

Not quite, I think those (NTS) were archive tracks spanning a few years, compiled/mixed and released in batches. A drift-style project implies one new track/jam per week, released one at a time on a schedule (possibly with accompanying video)

I did not take time to listen to strawberry hotel more than a few quick browse , and I will give it a try again, more fully.

but I tend to agree with all the posts I've read, it does not click-in  for me.

like some of you , underworld have been (and still is)a big thing for me.      but then.... the post - beaoucoup fish stuff never really got me // but I've been ok with them moving forward and making diiferent things than 3 first albums. not saying it's not good, it's just not for me and I guess some people enjoyed it otherwise they will had stop making music. so farewell. I'm happt if they still make a living just out of music (do they ?)

then, years after, when Drift came out, I really really enjoyed it,  being a good balance of old and new stuff, (I mean, subjectively, taking the bests of both sides)

still Listen to some Drift, at least one time each month.  but then other stuff.... tryning some time but then  "mmmm  naah"

.... some of you are saying it's worth to listen to strawberry so,   i'm gonna putting it on a listen right now.

I've never understood why so many fans perceive a separation between beaucoup fish and a hundred days off. Personally I think it's arbitrary, a mental trick people imposed on that album simply because "everything everything" was a big celebration of their music up to that point, like a sort of landmark, and because darren emerson left the band after that. If I am even recalling that timeline correctly. The music on a hundred days off is a direct continuation of what they were doing before that, you can even hear early jams of the stuff ("trim" for example) during beaucoup-era activity, live jams etc 🤷‍♂️ I think a hundred days off is a fantastic album, just as good as their 90s stuff. Oblivion with bells is where they started to dive (although I should mention I thought the riverrun series was very good).

and well listening to strawberry hotel ,  well no sorry,   somehow boring... and somehow the singing on some tracks  make me feels like they try to go depeche mode, I 'd rather to listen to depeche mode   (btw digged "delta machines " recently,   that's good)

Strawberry Hotel sounds like they tried to make an underworld album for people who have never heard underworld before

What is that album title though oh my god I can't take it seriously

Always makes me think of this

I think it's an actual hotel/place

I still regularly listen to Beaoucoup Fish, and it still sounds quite amazing to me! Weirdly I got into Underworld because of a Wipeout game. Heard I think Kittens off of beaoucoup fish in the game - and thus discovered that great album.

This was my first live experience, kinda cool it was filmed!

not a great event though. Really expensive and busy. Plus ass end of nowhere, when Paul Van Dyk and whoever else was DJing after finished it was 8am and I had to walk a few miles back to the apartment we were staying. Shower then get a coach to the airport. Awful haha!

Craig David and Sonique were also on the lineup which made it a really eclectic weird crowd. But obviously being Ibiza in 2000 everyone was off their chop and having the best time so it was alright. But being the last day of the holiday I was pretty ruined. I became a fan though so here I am, and here they are, 25 years later. Still doing it.

fair enough, same for me !  this + the trainspotting soundtrack  at the same time.

it was "pearl's girl (tin there version)" in the  wipeout soundtrack (wipeout 2 iirc). wich got me buying the "pearls girls e.p." (still a favourvite)

but there's 3 or 4 wipeout so in the lattest maybe they also had "kittens" in the soundtrack

I would have heard born slippy somewhere first, when it was new. Thought it was stupid. Then a bit later when I heard the opening chords to pearls girl (the album version) I thought it was one of the most beautiful things I had ever heard. Still think that opening is a classic moment in electronic music. Was already into fsol and orbital and other stuff like that by then and knew underworld was another one of those high profile artists so I'd better check them out. Wasn't sure if I'd like them because of the vocals but of course the rest is history.

Pearls Girl is probably right up the top of Underworld productions for me. I don't think I've ever tried to do a list tbh, maybe between now and June when forum dies I'll sit and do a list

Love Kittens (even though I'm highly allergic to cats 🙂)

Sorry to hear of your allergy! But glad to hear you also love that track. I always sounds massive to me. Sometimes things date badly, but as much as I can hear staples from that period in that track, it maintains a searing freshness to this day!

Agreed.  Pearl's Girl is peak Underworld to me.  Sensational.

After reading all the flak it got here I finally listened to Strawberry Hotel.  I didn't mind it so much tbh.  Some good tracks, but deary me ... Ottavia is bad.  What were they thinking?

Edited by NewSchoolScience

Ottavia is abysmally bad.  Album is solid, but I'm not coming back to it like I want to most of the older stuff and even Drift.

Anyway...who is going to see them on their tour? Or has seen them recently?

I'll be in Chicago to catch their show in May.  Have never seen them live, and was supposed to during 2020...but you know.

Expand

I saw them in Edinburgh last year.  I was kinda underwhelmed to be honest 😞

I got tired of deliberating over whether to buy this record or not so I just bought "Techno Shinkansen" as a single. I can't believe I would do that after nearly 30 years of buying whole Karl hogs but I just couldn't love the rest of the record. We're old and bandwidth is low these days--sorry 🥲

It truly is the only salvageable track of the lot, isn't it
