Your Special Squarepusher Track

Recommended Posts

More of an "underrated gem". Song: Our Underwater Torch is a solid classic, perhaps outshadowing this nugget of dark late 90s squarepusher goodness on an otherwise forgettable EP (ae remix notwithstanding of course).

Aside from some classics already posted, this remix can still take me back to the era when I fell in love w squarepusher. I also don't hear it too often so all the more potent when I do.

I really wish this had been on the Feed Me Weird Things reissue, along with Bubble, Squeak, I Was Livid, Peace Nail and Carwreck (Squarepusher Mix).

It's a monolithic track of history that is almost impossible to touch yet I always really liked this low key, rather chilled out Squarepusher take on a 10/10 original. It's not one of his best, but he gets away with it. Like a cunning fox.

I remember when it came out, and I was pretty tribal and hardcore in my opinions of everything to do with music. He even whispers the vocals himself. It should be a disaster but somehow Mr Jenkinson gets away with it. Very ninja :shuriken: :squarepusher_logo:

I am here to throw some love on some tracks not already posted.

A key track in getting me to "get" Squarepusher back in the day. The bassline is fun, the percussion is...a little hard to listen to at times, the synth that comes in at 2:59 is some of my favorite I've ever heard. Really reminds me of some more "out there" PS1 era video games (call me out, it's Armored Core). Big shoutout to @Rubin Farr for posting "Fat Controller" (which I only learned like a year ago is what they're called Sir Topham Hatt in the UK/earlier version of Thomas the Tank Engine).

A track/album that seemed to be kind of disliked on release, I always jived with a few tracks on here, namely this and "Coathanger" because they rule.

It was between this or "Zounds Perspex" but I had to go with the one I loved from first listen. This EP felt like he was really trying something new and I liked the premonitions of his sound direction in retrospect.

My favorite from the Shoebaleader One: d'Demonstrator project. Lovely song.

My first favorite.

It was going to be either this of F-Train. Another early (to me) favorite.

Thank you for posting Into The Blue ! It is imo an outstanding pop song, would love hearing Tom doing more of these.

A very special track for me (as the other posted in the thread, it is very underrated) :

^ loved Solo Electric Bass on release, probably because I discovered the jazzier Squarepusher first. Anyway I played this album a lot and one evening out of nowhere, the arpeggiated section starting at 0:54 made me cry - althought it almost never happens when I listen to music.

A close #2 for me would be Angel Integer from the Enstrobia EP :

I love the melody and synth sounds in this one. The bridge with the half comical, half dramatic snare roll is awesome too.

Another Into the Blue enthusiast here :cisfor:  Such a tune.

Tho I gotta say "Abstract Lover" is right up there with it. One of his best melodies ever.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed that. And remembered it. I think I gave ufab/enstrobia a fair chance when it came out but have never returned to it since then, as the general "flavour" it left in my memory was kind of intense and fatiguing. But I remember liking this tune! I should give those releases another chance.

I think "Ufabulum" is rather overlooked. There's a lot of massive tracks on it, I almost put "The Metallurgist" or "Drax 2" on my list, but thought it was getting rather long winded.

Also kind of wanted to shout out "My Red Hot Car", but also felt it already got quite a lot of love. This thread has really re-opened my eyes to how varied Squarepusher's projects have been, and also how realized, ambitious, and interesting they've been.

vIC aCID - Does anything bounce along like this as much?

Lovely and bouncy. I played it in Audiosurf once and the amount of bounce to it made it miserable in that game lol.

Wow, I just saw this thread title and thought "I gotta post Tomorrow World, nobody knows about it..."

Amazing track. I once got control of my school's PA system and simulcast this track into every room on campus... I remember a teacher running around yelling "it's too loud!"...
