Suddenly a partial hearing loss... maybe

Recommended Posts

It's quite a common sequelae. I now know two people with serious ear and hearing problems post covid.

I heard (!) back from my friend above. He's managed to use his hearing aids, it seems the pain was being caused by a new ear infection, so thats good news (apart from the pain). Im hoping the congestion is treatable and he might have some improvement - unless/until he catches covid again. 😰

Interesting reports. really sad to see quite a few of you has serious troubles. especially when it's due to health problems despite you've been cautionnous about not blasting high levels all the time.   I compassiontate and wish you the best.

I'm 43 years old , fortunately I'm not having serious hearing issues due to health problem / disease etc

well I do have some hearing issues.  but they're more common , and all mainly due to long time exposition to sound. even if I've been quite carefull with levels, working in live sound + alongside listening to music  2 or more hours a day on a basis got my ears tired for shure)

- slight hyperacusison the left : like , if listened loud, mids around 600 - 800 hz get slighly distored or unpleasent - not painfull , but wou would feel like notching it in with the eq .  also bass around 80hz would seem louder on the left than on the right.

- hi freq gradually loss since my 30 year old (right now I can't hear anything above 14 khz on the right and 12khz on the right. at very low levels I won't get anything over 10khz.  though going from 20khz to under 15khz is known usually as normal for 45+ years old person, I know lots of older people that can hear a 12khz verywell. so I'm way under the "normal"

-very slight tinnitus at 5khz  on the left ear that I would hear only in complete silence.

so my stereo is not perfect (a mono sound on headphones will not sound the same on both sides) but fortunately I can still enjoy stereo field / effects and locate a sound in space.

slighly off- topic, but as I'm at it :

When I'm teaching about sound to youg people, I 'l really concerned to say to them "take care of your ears, you won't have spare ones.  " (also take care of people in the venue of course) .  be carefull with levels , but also  you have to pause.  the longer you 're in loud sound, the bigger the damage.  I mean, 45 minutes in a show at 102 db is ok but, don't stay 3h in here without a pause.   6 hours of 95db non-stop will be more dangerous than 15 minutes at 105db.

they make good earplugs now, molded to your personnal ear's shape, and getting a -10db reduction without totally unbalancing  the spectrum (or -15db or -20db , you can choose)  I would def recommend them for a long rave or festivals.

also, nothing worst than putting music on headphones before going to sleep, then falling alseep and having your headphones going on for all the night until you wake up hours later. (done that quite often when I was young )

No, Ménière's causes infatuation with dope beats and lush pads. Albeit in mono...

We Are The Ménière Monophonics

Haha, no WATMM members are left who are being able to hear the high frequency sound in Ae Piezo, 1 min or so, after 8 bars.

For the same reason WATMM members gradually like Ventolin more and more the older they get.

been there not too long ago, maybe the chlorine from the pool onboard... I don't use q-tips but apparently I had some wax inside my ears and maybe it "melted" with the chloride and slided inside my eardrum... first on my right ear and then on my left ear... for the first time I experienced what's being partially deaf... my right ear healed fast with antibiotics and regular ear cleaning with syringe and hot water but my left eardrum got nasty infected and swollen so I had to use some kind of ear drops antibiotic until it unswollen and then some wax or pus I don't know for sure came out... such a relief, just like when you bust a big pimple that's been there forever... anyway, first thing to do when I get back to portugal is a proper ear cleaning by a proper specialist cause these aledged "doctors" onboard don't know shit... all the best to you but probs you're not losing anything cause people only say shit and your taste in music is also shitty so... just kidding, I'm a silly goose...
