Is he working with ghost producers/ collaborators since Syro ?

Recommended Posts

Don't know if it's been discussed here already, I remember reading on xltronic that all of the "mix" tracks on Syro were collaborations with other uncredited artists, also if I remember correctly there were theories about 1st 44 on the Collapse EP, people where speculating about the track being a collaboration with Jlin ?

lol what?

Did they have any evidence or just speculating? Unless it's someone big like squarepusher who doesn't need the boost, you'd think he'd wanna promote their stuff

"Whoa! Check it out! RO-BIGH-DUHS!"

sigh.. "That's Ribena.."

Of course no evidence for the xltronic post, maybe the guy was taking the piss IDK, but I clearly remember Richard mentioning getting in touch with Jlin, maybe it's just him who want to produce footwork/juke on 1st 44 ?

He was collabing with Jlin but they fell out so her parts were removed and he did his own thing.

I remember the grapevine buzzing with the Jlin track. Also Paradox.

Just imagine falling out with The Man The Myth? Ouch! Wonder what happened there? as if you were asked to work with him I'm sure one would do their level best to get the job done. I could fall out with loads of people on a weekly basis at work, but I don't because it ain't worth the bother.

He was briefly linked up with Die Antwoord for a collab, wasn’t he? I seem to recall him saying something about backing out because he was feeling “controlled”, but that quote could have also been from a dozen other possible collaborations.

Didn't he play live with them once?

Yeah

So maybe all of that was “before Syro”?

I'm sure he uses collabs as a way to propel his sound, just by proxy alone, like the whole warp IDM sound, running along squarepusher, uZiq and all them. especially now that he's the old geezer in the crowd, to keep speaking with the zeitgeist in a way requires a bit of reaching out. but ghost producing is definitely a stretch, I can't see even a motivation for him to do it really

didn't know about the Jlin fall out. too bad, I thought the track sounded dope. Die Antwoord on the other hand I can't say I'm that disappointed, always felt like their shtick was way too gimmicky, and from that video it doesn't sound like we're missing a whole lot either tbf

die antwoord was always an art project. dude was like an emnem type rapper and made a song about how he could go rap rave and be famous if he wanted to so then he did it and die antwoord happened. in the end they even made a press release about it when they ended the project.

didn't know all that cause I didn't really follow them closely. but yeah, the sarcasm was the only real appeal, it was apparent that was what they were about. but the music didn't quite cut it for me so, personally, it didn't amount to much other than a joke. like listening to a bo burnham LP, I can't see myself listening to it more than a couple times just cause that's not what I'm looking for when listening to music

hit or miss for me a lot of the time but there's a few tracks i liked a lot and would listen back to via youtube sometimes.. the videos helped a lot.  to me it was just avant pop or something but w/a punk rock ftw type undercurrent. also i found a good bit of it pretty funny and the south africa slang element was interesting as someone unfamiliar with that.  they were a slice of time though in hindsight. i mean.. they were dominant in a certain segment of the internet for a while.  i appreciated the anti-pop-pop sentiment.

edit: there's some old videos of them pre-die antwoord and he's basically doing eminem style stuff. i can't remember what he called himself then.

hoping he does something really good with Ai for the next album cover, maybe Weirdcore or someone is working on it? 🤷‍♂️

Positive Metal Attitude

If 1st 44 was a JLin collab she brought out one of his best pieces of music in decades. T69, MT1 (my favorite) and 1st 44 are all s-tier contributions. For the record I doubt it was a collab but obviously 1st 44 was heavily influenced by footwork and she’s a luminary in that field so without the genre no way we get that song.

We realy asking ourself if afx has ghost producers 😂

I recall the rapper dude seeming genuinely offended and bothered that people thought it was ironic.  I think they really were those personas.

I can live with artists saying dumb shit all the time like afx, kanye and mike p but that situation with Ninja and that girl seems sooo off. Can't listen to their music no more 😔

well, I wouldn't be surprised.. from what I can gather from all of those public scandals, the cancelling and that bullshit, the sarcasm was malicious. like it stemmed from narcissism or just plain old bad character. it felt like a scheme, is what I mean. and the music just didn't have heart enough to support it, it was just bad acting. luckily these things come to light, sooner or later
