Guest couch
I haven't used the Shiva yet. It's hard for me to resist buying loads of dwarfcraft pedals. =\ I really really want their new SOMMS pedal. Guest kokeboka
The Fuzz Factory is a definite winner, it sounds great. The Boss stuff sounds really trashy, which might be useful for certain things, but I'm not sure about keeping so many different flavours of it. Tube screamers are sounding way more discreet than I expected. No Big Muffs in your heap? psn
Yeah, the Fuzz Factory is an instrument/animal in itself. It self oscillates to a tunable pitch, screams, farts and behaves generally crazy. The sucking effect of the overdriven TC is pretty weird (towards the end of the clip), the pedal seems to kneel under being driven by only 9V. It can take up to 30v or something. The Boss MD-2 is pretty wild while maintaining the bass frequencies, whereas quite a few of the other pedals sound pretty thin. Never owned a Big Muff. Would like to have one, though! I'm loving what it's doing to the 100hz to 300hz range. It gives it a nice pillowy/rubbery softness. The rest of the pedals didn't really do much for me. The Fuzz Factory is definitely wild and gives the 303 a cool erratic quality. Thanks again for doing this. If you get more pedals, please do more of these types of examples, it's invaluable info. sheatheman
Thinking about dropping around $300 on a pedal. What’s your favorite? i have wanted a shallow water from Fairfield circuitry for a long time, but I ended up recreating it in ableton and it sounds very good. Just don’t have a low pass gate/even know what a LPG is. also thinking about an H9, but that’s a little more expensive. Soloman Tump
Just spent £25 on a compression pedal, no need to spend any more than that.... Its one of those Caline (Chinese) gizmos. I don't usually go for cheap brands but it's a compression pedal.... Actually sounds ok and does exactly what i want it to do, it tames some of the really loud output that occasionally gets generated by my Moody Sounds Babybox pedal Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide Soloman Tump's signature Hide all signatures https://intrusivesignals.blogspot.com/ Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/10924-guitar-pedals/page/2/#findComment-2809823 Share on other sites
TubularCorporation
$18 Tube Screamer clone off of Aliexpress is one of the best sounding pedals I've ever owned. Guyatone/Flip VT-X Tube Tremolo is great, too. About a year after college I found nearly $200 in cash on the sidewalk with nobody visible for two blocks in either direction so I felt fully morally justified in taking it across town and buying myself a fancy pedal. I was after something completely different but I decided to try the VT-X and ended up getting it because not only was it a nice sounding tremolo, if I turned the depth down to zero so it wasn't actually modulating the volume at all but was still switched on, I liked the way that soudned BETTER than a straight connection from instrument to amp. Around 2010 I got two of these for $80, sold one for 100 and kept the other one. I've done a few mods since then (changed the value of the delay time pot so it can push the BBD way past spec and into long, ugly, wall of noise type stuff, and a switch to select between a couple different capacitors in the feedback loop so I can roll off more or less high end depending on how long I set the delay and how much clock bleed I'm OK with at long delay times). I wish I'd kept both because even without the mods it's probably my favorite analog delay I've ever used, and the input distorts really nicely, too. modey
Good timing to resurrect this thread. I pulled out all of my old guitar pedals to sell some on ebay and accidentally ran signal through this Behringer EQ pedal without having it plugged in: So I'm not gonna sell that one. I'm definitely gonna experiment with feeding it various voltages below 9V to see if the distortion can be controlled, but damn, what a crazy sound. BaggerMcGuirk
One of my favorite recent pedal purchases was the Zoom MS50G. It's like a mini NI Guitar Rig in a pedal, in that you can chain various DSP virtual pedal effects together and save patches. The one I have is mono in/stereo out, but there's also a stereo/stereo one as well, and I may upgrade soon. The effects by and large sound really good as well, imo. The trade off for all those virtual pedals is that you have 3 physical knobs that can be used for three virtual ones and, as near as I can tell, you can't custom assign the physical knobs to the virtual ones. user 1 Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide BaggerMcGuirk's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/10924-guitar-pedals/page/2/#findComment-2811171 Share on other sites

I bought a chorus/delay for €150 early this year and recently sold it for the same price, and I've seen them go for less. But I know they're popular with folks and would expect a price hike (excluding gougers like your guy). It was a bit too noisy and inflexible for my tastes. TubularCorporation
A couple years ago helped me get one of these on Yahoo Auctions Japan for $80 (plus another $80 to get it shipped) and did the hi-fo/line level mod for it (just swapping 3 or 4 components to get more headroom and lower noise floor, it still works fine with instrument level too) and I can't imagine the Rockman stuff sounds any better, plus in bypass it works as a pretty nice sounding buffered 4 way line splitter. OTOH I just checked and in the USA at least these seem to be even more expensive than the Rockman stuff now. There are still good deals in Japan if you have someone there who can buy it and ship it to you (I just checked and there's a Juno 60 that's only bid up to $43 USD with just a couple days left; when I was actively looking on there I saw all kinds of vintage Akai stuff available in the sub $50 range pretty regularly and now that I can't get stuff on there I regret not really taking advantage of it) but in North America, at least, prices got even dumber in the last year or two.
